Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Venser Soujourner (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Frank Mir (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Venser Soujourner!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 10 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Frank Mir!
The judges for this bout are Cecil Peabody, Frank Dennis and George Francis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mir tests Soujourner's chin there with a solid looking shot.

Mir looking to score a takedown here. Soujourner is defending well but Mir drives through and ends up in Soujourner's guard.

Mir stands up from Soujourner's guard - Mir perhaps looking for a knockout.

Mir feints and as Soujourner raises his hands in defense, Mir changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Mir wants to pass the guard but Soujourner is keeping the position.
Soujourner wants to stand up but Mir is controlling him.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Mir postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

Mir decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Soujourner, up you get!

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Frank Mir wasn't active enough on the ground.
Soujourner misses with a takedown

and Mir counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Mir.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Venser Soujourner. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Soujourner goes for a takedown in the clinch but Mir prevents it.

Mir breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

Mir forces Soujourner back against the cage and clinches.
Soujourner wants a takedown but no success here.

Mir decides to pull guard.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Mir looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.

The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.
Soujourner throws a strike but Mir rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.
Mir is stalling in the full guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Frank Mir has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet.

Mir closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Soujourner keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
Mir content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.

Mir moves into full mount! Soujourner won't be happy about that!
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Mir takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Frank Mir dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Soujourner shoots and misses

and Mir decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Soujourner's guard.
Mir passes easily into side control. Nice work.
Mir controlling the position from side mount.

Mir swings around for an armbar but Soujourner sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Mir's guard.

Mir working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Soujourner doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Soujourner manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Mir seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.
Frank Mir has got the better of the ground game so far.

Mir preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.

Mir scrambles and gets back to his feet.
Soujourner darts in trying to clinch

so Mir counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Mir wants to pass the guard but Soujourner is keeping the position.
Mir not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

Mir advances to half guard.
Soujourner avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Mir.

Mir is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Soujourner defends it well.
Mir not doing much here.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Mir seems to be working for a kimura but Soujourner defends the submission attempt.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Frank Mir showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!


Mir circles away from the clinch attempt

and Mir counters with a takedown into side control.
Mir in side control, throwing shots but Soujourner defends.
Mir has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Mir happy to just control the position for now.

Mir has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.

Mir moves into the clinch.

Mir wants the takedown. Soujourner is fighting it off but Mir persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Soujourner's guard against the cage.
Mir throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Soujourner works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Mir content to stall in guard here.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Frank Mir was stalling too much, according to the referee.

Mir closes the distance and clinches.

Mir has picked Soujourner up - he's going for a ride! Mir dumps his opponent to the mat with a thud and settles into half guard.
Mir slows the pace down in half guard.
Mir wants to pass the guard but Soujourner is defending well.

Soujourner kicks off Mir and gets to his feet.
Venser Soujourner seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Mir gets a takedown into half guard.
Soujourner blocking the ground and pound attempt from Mir.

Mir is working for a kimura but Soujourner is defending it quite comfortably.
Well, if Mir is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.

Mir throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
Venser Soujourner has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Frank Mir is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Mir takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.

Frank Mir comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Mir has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
