PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Stormy Day (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Dan Sortsen (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Well, I have no idea who's going to take this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Stormy Day!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Dan Sortsen!
The judges for this bout are Stewart Dunkirk, Chris Downing and Cecil Peabody.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Day has taken the fight to the clinch.
Day tries to break free but Sortsen pushes him back against the cage.
Day tries to throw a body punch but Sortsen avoids it by throwing Day back against the cage.
Day wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Sortsen has him pressed against the cage.
Day wants to break the clinch but can't.
An uppercut to the body lands inside from Day.
Sortsen gets underhooks to prevent Day's takedown attempt.
Day is pushing Sortsen up against the cage, for a bit of lean and pray action. Action being used the in the loosest possible sense of the word.

Day lands a nice trip takedown into half guard.
Sortsen gets full guard.
Sortsen looking to sweep here. No luck so far.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Day controls from within his opponent's guard.
Day trying to control the position from guard on top but Sortsen is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Day is really struggling to control Sortsen but he's trying to hold on to the position.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
Sortsen is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Day could do with loosing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.

The ref stands the fighters back up because Stormy Day just wasn't active enough.
Day is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Sortsen avoids a low kick by using good footwork.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Sortsen fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Day connects with a hook to the side of his opponent's head.
Day tries to close the distance and clinch up but Sortsen swats him away and circles back towards the center.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Day tries to clinch but Sortsen is having none of it.

Day moves in looking to clinch but Sortsen pushes him off.
Day throws a right hand that Sortsen ducks under and follows up with a left that Sortsen also avoids with ease.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Sortsen chopped to the floor by a nice leg kick but he springs right back up before Day can pounce on him.
Day misses with a two punch combination.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Stormy Day dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Sortsen fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Day wants to clinch up but Sortsen keeps it at a distance.
Day ducks down and throws a hook to the body.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Horrible takedown by Sortsen or perhaps it was just good defense by Day which made him look bad.
Sortsen shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Day as he jumps to the side.
Stormy Day has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Dan Sortsen.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Day throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Sortsen.

Day takes the fight into the clinch.
Day lands with a quick shot inside that doesn't really do much damage.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Sortsen is trying to trip Day. He has hold of a leg but Day is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. Sortsen persists though and gets the takedown into guard.
Sortsen wants to pass the guard but Day is keeping the position.
Day is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Sortsen trying to pass the guard. He's being very persistent here but Day manages to land a sweep and now he's on top!
Day might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Day trying to control the position from guard on top but Sortsen is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Day would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.

Sortsen pushes a forearm under Day's chin to create some space. He's escaped his hips and pivoted quickly for an armbar! Can he extend the arm? Yes, Day is tapping out! Damn, that was fast!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:51 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Dan Sortsen!
