PBP Commentary |
Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Gee Damn (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Yabwe Polfavol (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
14 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Gee Damn! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
9 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Yabwe Polfavol! The judges for this bout are Robert Twigg, Chris Downing and Stewart Dunkirk.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Damn misses with a double jab.
Damn stalks Polfavol and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Polfavol's face. Polfavol staggers backwards, shaken. Damn changes levels and scores with a jab to the body. Damn connects with the punch. Damn will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Damn with a body punch. A glancing blow. Polfavol misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Polfavol throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Damn cracks a nice hook into Polfavol's ribs. Polfavol uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Damn.
Polfavol has Damn up against the cage in a clinch.
Polfavol has Damn pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Damn manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing. Damn lands a right hand that snaps the head of Polfavol backwards. Damn working some nice short punches in the clinch. Damn scores with a nice hook to the head. Polfavol can't get the takedown.

Polfavol tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Damn smiles and moves away.
Gee Damn has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Yabwe Polfavol. Damn misses with an uppercut. Damn tries to score with a low kick but Polfavol moves his leg out of the way. Polfavol looks shocked there as he takes a right hand to the temple. Damn throws a nice looking combination but Polfavol bobs and weaves to avoid any damage. Damn scores with a jab. Damn lands with a nice low kick. That'll leave a bruise. Damn misses with a looping right. Damn lands a nice hook to Polfavol's body. Polfavol takes it in his stride and looks to land his own strikes. An inside leg kick lands from Damn. Damn wants to clinch and Polfavol counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Damn slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work. Polfavol drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Damn manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Polfavol has Damn in his guard. Polfavol looking to hit a scissor sweep but Damn is one step ahead there. Damn's corner is telling him to maintain position. Polfavol escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Damn gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance. Damn scores with a decent looking elbow strike.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Damn trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat. Polfavol looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Polfavol working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Damn doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Damn manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem. Damn will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions. Damn not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up. Polfavol looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Polfavol working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Damn. Damn has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player. Damn trying to stand up but can't free himself from Polfavol's guard. Polfavol working for submissions but it's allowed Damn to get to half guard.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Damn wants to take a breather but Polfavol is having none of it. Damn works his way into full mount! Polfavol is trying to escape the mount.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Damn looking to control but Polfavol is working nicely, looking to advance position himself. Polfavol tries to lock up and control but Damn gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Gee Damn dominated that round. That's time! Damn's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.
Damn throws a right and a left that Polfavol avoids nicely. Jab, jab by Damn - just one landing. Some bone on bone action there as Polfavol checks a low kick. Luckily it wasn't a particularly hard one. Damn lands with a slapping head kick. A head kick by Polfavol misses and Damn counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head. Damn wings a very wild body shot but it does the job and lands to the midsection. Left hook, right uppercut from Damn. Damn is using his height advantage well here, landing a good percentage of his punches. Damn misses with a looping right. Damn throws a combination. Polfavol tries to block but a couple of punches get through. Damn stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush. Polfavol keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
A looping hook to the body misses from Polfavol. Damn does a little dance to reset his feet.
That's one minute gone in the round. Damn thows a body shot but no joy. Gee Damn seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Polfavol fails to land the takedown. Damn lands with a hook. Polfavol tried to avoid it but it clipped the top of his head. Damn will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Damn is using his reach advantage well here, landing the more effective single shots from range. Polfavol on the wrong end of a decent looking cross there.

Damn wants to clinch up but Polfavol keeps it at a distance. Damn moving in and out of range nicely, whilst landing the scoring shot. Gee Damn is winning the standup battle so far. Polfavol takes a shot right to the liver - Bas would have been proud of that punch. Polfavol moves out of range of the leg kick from Damn.
That's two minutes gone in the round. A right-left combo lands from Damn. A left and a right from Damn both land. Nice combination. Polfavol takes a big uppercut there. He seems a bit wobbly but no, he's OK.
Damn jabs Polfavol to the body, keeping him at a distance. Damn with a nice looking leg kick. You could hear that one land in a back row.
A looping hook to the body misses from Damn. Polfavol does a little dance to reset his feet. Damn fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Damn throws a low kick but Polfavol avoids it. Polfavol fails miserably with a takedown attempt. Left hook, right uppercut from Damn.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Polfavol takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily. Gee Damn is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs. Damn works Polfavol's body with a nice hook. Damn keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Gee Damn is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things. Polfavol misses with a body kick. Damn lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
Damn defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Polfavol. Gee Damn has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Yabwe Polfavol. Damn throws a one two combo.
Damn lands an overhand left. A wild punch that just about connected. Damn lands a lovely overhand right. Damn lands with a right hand. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Damn lands with a nice combination. Polfavol backs away looking to recover. Damn is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Polfavol can do to turn this around? Polfavol is breathing heavily. Damn connects with a nice looking jab.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Good leg kick by Damn there. It's the ones that make that thud noise that hurt and that was an almighty thud.
A decent looking cross lands there for Damn. Damn displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Polfavol. Damn cracks Polfavol with a hook to the jaw. Both fighters smile at eachother and high-five before getting back down to business. Damn connects with a single shot there. A slapping leg kick lands for Damn.
Damn feints with a shoulder and throws a nice leg kick to Polfavol's calf. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Damn swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.

Damn connects with a lovely jab that went straight through the gap between Polfavol's hands. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Gee Damn dominated that second round. The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!
Nice uppercut there from Damn. Damn lands a leg kick. The shin dug right into the meat of the thigh. A slow jab from Damn misses its intended target. Polfavol takes one to the chin there. Damn clobbers Polfavol with an overhand right that has the crowd gasping. That made a horrendous noise. A combination from Damn does no damage. Damn lunges in with an uppercut that skims his opponent's chin. A combination from Damn does no damage. Damn lands a straight punch to the body, keeping Polfavol at a distance.
Damn dances in quickly and lands a nice inside leg kick on Polfavol. That did some damage! Damn lands a body shot.
Damn lands a front kick.
That's one minute gone in the round. Damn connects with the punch. Polfavol takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired. Damn lands with a nice low kick. That'll leave a bruise. Polfavol throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Damn lunges in with an uppercut that skims his opponent's chin. Polfavol throws a head kick that misses and Damn counters with a quick right hand to the jaw. Damn's corner calls for a 1-2. Damn obliges with the 1 part as he scores the single shot and moves back out of range. Polfavol takes a shot right to the liver - Bas would have been proud of that punch. Jab by Damn. Damn lands a nice leg kick that just misses Polfavol's sensitive parts. Damn scores with a jab to the head.

That's two minutes gone in the round. Damn lands an overhand left. A wild punch that just about connected. Damn wants to clinch up but Polfavol keeps it at a distance. Damn throws a series of punches but Polfavol avoids them all with ease. Polfavol has a pretty nasty looking mouse under his right eye. Like a baseball bat into the meat of his leg there - nice leg kick by Damn.
Polfavol decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard. This has been an exciting period of action! Polfavol is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Damn defends it well. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Damn trying to hold on to Polfavol's head to control him but Polfavol postures up.
Damn makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Damn. Damn is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Damn keeping moving, preventing Polfavol from controlling successfully. Polfavol postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Damn is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Polfavol, into his guard. Damn wants to pass the guard but Polfavol is keeping the position. Damn stays in close to Polfavol's body and controls the position. Polfavol has an active guard here but Damn has managed to pass into half guard.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Damn is looking to take a break and control but Polfavol is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. It looks like Damn is going to stand back up.
Polfavol manages to get to full guard.
Yabwe Polfavol has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here! Polfavol throws his legs up looking for a submission but Damn uses it to pass to side control.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Polfavol is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Damn off and has taken his back!
And that's the end of the fight! Gee Damn showed his dominance in that final round. Well I reckon that's a shut out for Damn, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
