The judges for this bout are Leandro Rodrigues, Daniel Cesar and Felipe Paraventi.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Like a baseball bat into the meat of his leg there - nice leg kick by Kongo.
Hopkins swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Kongo wants to land a leg kick but Hopkins is out of range.
Hopkins throws a hook to the side of Kongo's head but Kongo sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
Kongo ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Hopkins moves away.
Kongo steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Hopkins.
Hopkins checks a leg kick nicely.
Hopkins moves out of range of the body kick from Kongo.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Kongo throws a head kick but Hopkins moves out of range.
Hopkins chopped to the floor by a nice leg kick but he springs right back up before Kongo can pounce on him.
Kongo tries a low kick but Hopkins avoids it.
Kongo slips under a jab from Hopkins.
That's one minute gone in the round.
Kongo lands a straight punch to the body, keeping Hopkins at a distance.
Hopkins blocks a leg kick.
Kongo staying out of range there.
Hopkins will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Hopkins chopped to the floor by a nice leg kick but he springs right back up before Kongo can pounce on him.
Hopkins tries to check the leg kick but that clearly hurt him.
Hopkins looks gassed!
Kongo cracks a nice hook into Hopkins's ribs.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
A kick lands to the mid section there for Kongo.
Kongo wants to land a leg kick but Hopkins is out of range.
That's two minutes gone in the round.
Kongo throws a quick head kick that skims the top of Hopkins's head.
Hopkins misses with a wild body shot.
Crunch! Kongo slams his shin into Hopkins's torso.
Ohhhhh! A huge head kick from Kongo! Hopkins is out on his feet! Kongo rushes in and throws more strikes. The ref is looking closely - Hopkins is covering up but the punishment is just too much and the ref steps in to stop the fight! Hopkins is staring into space, just thankful that the beatdown has ended. Brutal finish.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:25 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Cheick Kongo!
