Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Joe Canseco! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
3 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Lucas Cobos! The judges for this bout are , and Jack Bonds.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Cobos shoots in for a takedown but Canseco shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet. Canseco is looking to clinch. Canseco changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Cobos tries to avoid it but Canseco manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Cobos to the ground. Cobos escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet. Canseco has managed to clinch.
Cobos pulls guard. Canseco looking to sit in guard and control but Cobos gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top. Cobos throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent. Canseco thows some rabbit punches from the bottom but they don't do any damage. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Cobos trying to control but Canseco is working from the bottom. Cobos avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Cobos lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Cobos trying to control the position from guard on top but Canseco is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Canseco trying to control the position.
Canseco keeping moving, preventing Cobos from controlling successfully. Cobos gets to his feet - Canseco follows without any prompting. Cobos is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two. Cobos shoots and misses so Canseco counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility. Cobos looks gassed! Canseco looking to pass the guard. Canseco controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Canseco throws and elbow that misses. Cobos uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Canseco's guard. Nice move by Cobos! Cobos won't allow Canseco to sweep him here. Canseco trying to keep a closed guard but Cobos is proving a slippery customer.
Cobos slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
That's three minutes gone in the round. The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace. Canseco looking for a guillotine here but Cobos defends easily.
Cobos is looking to work some ground and pound but Canseco has wrist control. Canseco trying to control the position.
Cobos throwing strikes from guard but Canseco blocks nicely. Canseco looking to sweep using the butterfly guard but Cobos puts pay to that idea as he passes nicely into half guard. Canseco is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
That's four minutes gone in the round. My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer. Canseco punching from the bottom.
Canseco keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound. Canseco wants to get back to full guard but Cobos has mounted him! Canseco taking shots to the head. Cobos lands with some vicious ground and pound - can Canseco hang on? Canseco tries to hold on but Cobos postures up. Canseco is looking to get to half guard. A nice elbow there by Cobos. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Lucas Cobos dominated that round. The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!
Cobos misses with a hook. Canseco ducked under it nicely. Canseco has managed to clinch.
Canseco lands a body punch in the clinch. Canseco has picked Cobos up - he's going for a ride! Canseco dumps his opponent to the mat with a thud and settles into half guard. Cobos kicks off Canseco and gets to his feet. Canseco shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away. Canseco throwing strikes here but Cobos is writhing around nicely and avoiding any serious damage.
Canseco throwing sloppy strikes here. Perhaps if he tightened up his striking from such a dominant position, he'd be able to finish easier.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Cobos can do anything to dispel that myth. Canseco content just to control the position here. Cobos is breathing heavily. Canseco throws some wild stikes that Cobos manages to avoid easily.
That's one minute gone in the round. Canseco misses with a head shot. Canseco throwing strikes but Cobos bucks up and reverses the position. He's now in guard on top. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Canseco working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage. Canseco wants to control from the top but Cobos keeps moving.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so. The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet. Canseco sitting in guard here, content to control.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Joe Canseco wasn't doing enough on the ground. Cobos tries for a takedown but Canseco circles away easily and Canseco counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground. Canseco is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Cobos is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Cobos has escaped and now he's on top! Canseco utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound. Canseco wants to get back to his feet but Cobos is in a dominant position and won't allow it. Canseco not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Cobos got a little sloppy there for a moment and Canseco has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Cobos has managed to get both his arms back between Canseco's legs - danger averted.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Canseco pulls Cobos in close to prevent any damage. Canseco wants to control but instead he gets his guard passed and Cobos is now in half guard. Cobos not landing any meaningful shots this time. Canseco looking for submissions from an awkward position here. Cobos missing with the ground and pound from half guard. Cobos scores with a couple of good hammerfists. Cobos has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan. Cobos decides to stand up and try his luck on the feet. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Joe Canseco dominated that second round. The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!

Canseco content to stall in guard here. Canseco looking to sit in guard and control but Cobos gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
That's one minute gone in the round. Cobos stopping the sweep attempt from Canseco. Cobos takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired. Cobos postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect. Canseco is pulling down on Cobos's head to control his posture. Cobos passes easily into side control. Nice work. Canseco is looking to reverse the position.
That's two minutes gone in the round. A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd. Cobos decides to stand up, so the ref orders Canseco to his feet. Cobos gets caught flat footed, as Canseco shoots in with a quick takedown into guard. Canseco has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player. Cobos keeping moving, preventing Canseco from controlling successfully. Canseco loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry. Canseco is looking to work some ground and pound but Cobos has wrist control. Canseco looking to sit in guard and control but Cobos gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Cobos sitting in guard here, content to control. Cobos preventing the sweep. Canseco is working hard here to advance position. Cobos trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat. Cobos avoids a guillotine attempt easily.

That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action. Canseco looking to hit a scissor sweep but Cobos is one step ahead there. Cobos gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent. Canseco doesn't succeed with the takedown and Cobos counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground. Cobos landing some decent shots from guard. Cobos chips away with some ground and pound.
And that's the end of the fight! I would just about give that final round to Lucas Cobos. I think Cobos has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
