PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Demarcus Ware (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Doug Tuna (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Ware's entrance music is Put on. A fine choice. Tuna has chosen Sharky + George as his entrance music. I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 11 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Demarcus Ware!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Doug Tuna!
The judges for this bout are Alan Glass, Chris Downing and Tiny Johnson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Tuna wings a very wild body shot but it does the job and lands to the midsection.
Sloppy strikes from Ware. Those never looked like landing.
Tuna circles away from the clinch attempt.
Demarcus Ware seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Ware tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in the close the distance. Tuna manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Tuna throws a body kick but he was well out of range there.
Ware misses with a series of wild punches.
Tuna moves out of range of the body kick from Ware.
A good leg kick by Tuna.
Tuna thuds a mid kick into his opponent's body. That will wear on Ware if he has to take too many more of those.
Ware blocks a low kick nicely.
Tuna takes a head kick and keeps coming.


It looks like Doug Tuna has been cut.
Tuna feints and then cracks Ware's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Ware down.
Ware fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Tuna cracks a nice hook into Ware's ribs.
A head kick misses from Ware.
Good leg kick by Tuna there. It's the ones that make that thud noise that hurt and that was an almighty thud.
Ware will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

Tuna misses with the body kick
and Ware counters with a kick to the head that grazes his opponent. Tuna is lucky that one didn't land flush.
Ware tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Tuna swivels and escapes.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Demarcus Ware. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Ware steps to his left, right into the path of a big body kick from Tuna. That one must have hurt.
Tuna blocks a head kick by Ware.
Tuna moves into range and lands a nice leg kick.
Ooooh, nice body kick lands from Tuna. Ware shrugs it off though.
Tuna explodes with a nice body kick and back out of range. Nice work.
Ware is breathing heavily.

Tuna drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Tuna stands up over Ware, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.
Tuna is stalling in the full guard.

Ware looking for a guillotine here but Tuna defends easily.

Ware is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Tuna defends well.

Tuna avoids a guillotine attempt easily.

Tuna controls from within his opponent's guard.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
Ware is trying to control the position but Tuna postures up.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Doug Tuna.
Tuna tries to land a front kick but Ware steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed.

Tuna feints and as Ware raises his hands in defense, Tuna changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.

Ware looking for submissions from the bottom but instead Tuna passes into half guard.
Ware is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Tuna's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Tuna's back!
Ware is trying to stick to Tuna's back but Tuna is turning into Ware. He's managed to reverse the position - now he's in Ware's guard. Polite applause from the crowd in appreciation of some nice Jiu Jitsu by Tuna.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Ware chopped to the floor by a nice leg kick but he springs right back up before Tuna can pounce on him.
Ware misses with a few strikes there.
Tuna scores with a shot to the body.
Ware tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Tuna paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Ware misses with a takedown
and Tuna counters with an outside leg kick.
Ware swings wildly with a couple of big hooks

and Tuna decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Ware's guard.
Tuna pushes down on Ware's leg and manages to get into half guard.
Tuna trying to control the pace.

Ware is trying to maintain the position but Tuna is very close to passing his half guard.
Tuna stalling.
Ware wants to improve his position but Tuna is controlling well.
Ware is working hard here to advance position.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Doug Tuna.
Ware bobs and weaves and unloads with a good uppercut.

Ware tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Tuna paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Tuna avoids a punch combination nicely.
Tuna shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Ware sprawls well. Ware wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Tuna gets slowly back to his feet.
Ware misses with a shot to the body
and Tuna counters with an outside leg kick.
Ware tries to score with an inside leg kick but telegraphs it and Tuna is able to avoid easily.
Ware tries to close the distance and clinch but Tuna swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Tuna throws a body kick the misses
and Ware cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
Ware moves out of range of the body kick from Tuna.

Ware tries to sprawl but Tuna drives through with a takedown into half guard.
Tuna takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
Ware gets back to full guard.
Ware keeping full guard, as Tuna tries to pass.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Tuna slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
Ware is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Tuna stopping the sweep attempt from Ware.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Tuna is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Demarcus Ware wasn't doing enough on the ground.
Tuna connects with a leg kick. Ware looked like he was expecting something else and didn't defend it.
Ware misses with a body kick.
Ware is hobbling a little on that front leg after taking quite a few leg kicks so far in this fight.
Tuna lands a leg kick and bounces back out of range.
Tuna looks to score with a jab to the body but Ware is just out of range.
Ware tries to clinch up but Tuna circles away and keeps his distance.
Doug Tuna seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Ware throws a body kick the misses
and Tuna counters with a good low kick that Ware was not able to check.
Ware leaves Tuna with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.

and Tuna counters with an inside leg kick.

Ware shoots and misses
and Tuna counters with a nice body shot.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Doug Tuna showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!


Ware takes a shot to the body in his stride.
Tuna lands with a nice body punch.
Ware wants to clinch.
Tuna is throwing a lot of body shots here, looking to wear down Ware rather than just go for the knockout.
Ware shoots and misses
and Tuna counters with a nice body kick.

Tuna shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Tuna showed some decent athleticism there.
Tuna not doing much here.

Tuna moves into side control, avoiding a weak kimura attempt from Ware.

Ware tries to buck Tuna off but Tuna is having none of it.
Ware being controlled for a moment.
Ware is trying to improve his position.

Ware sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard.
Tuna is figuring out what he wants to do next.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

Ware has guillotine here! It looks pretty tight! Could this be all over! No, Tuna escapes and passes into side control at the same time. Nice work there by Tuna!
Ware is trying to improve his position.
Ware is trying to escape the position but Tuna is controlling the position.

Let's hope that Tuna has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
Ware wants to control but Tuna postures up.
Tuna lands a decent elbow from side control.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Ware is looking for a sweep.
The referee tells the fighters to keep busy.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Ware manages to get back to half guard.
Ware wants to control but Tuna is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Tuna is looking to take a break and control but Ware is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Tuna content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.
Demarcus Ware has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Doug Tuna wasn't active enough on the ground.

Tuna throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Ware was covering up waiting for the punch and Tuna finishes the takedown easily into guard.

And that's the end of the fight!
Doug Tuna comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Tuna has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
