The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Howlett scores with a jab to the jaw of his opponent. Alverez misses with a series of wild punches.
Alverez rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Howlett moves out of range and avoids them all easily. Alverez throws a jab when Howlett was well out of range. Howlett slips a jab from Alverez. Alverez just misses with a punch to the body.
Alverez jabs at Howlett's body. Howlett throws a nice looking combination but Alverez bobs and weaves to avoid any damage. Howlett keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Alverez takes a shot to the eye socket. That's gotta hurt. Alverez wings a very wild body shot but it does the job and lands to the midsection. Howlett digs a good hook to Alverez's body.
Howlett takes one on the button. Howlett lands with an overhand left.
That's one minute gone in the round. Howlett slips a jab from Alverez. Alverez throws a combination that misses and Howlett makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range. Howlett moves away from the strike by Alverez. A big right from Alverez misses. Nice defenses there by Howlett. Alverez loads up on a big right hand but Howlett slips the punch. Howlett tries to clinch but Alverez moves out of range. Alverez pushing out the jab but it's not landing. Alverez throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Howlett sees it coming and avoids it easily. Alverez moving in and out of range nicely, whilst landing the scoring shot. Alverez keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.

That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena. Alverez is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Howlett. Howlett lands with a shot to the body. Howlett ducks under a wild hook from Alverez. Howlett lands with an overhand left. Howlett moves in looking to clinch but Alverez pushes him off. A swing and a miss from Alverez. Alverez scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business. Alverez jabbing away but nothing is landing. Alverez pushing out the jab but it's not landing. Sloppy strikes from Howlett. Those never looked like landing. Howlett displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Alverez. Alverez misses with a hook to the body
and Howlett counters with a nice uppercut. Alverez thows a body shot but no joy.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Howlett avoids the body shot from Alverez.
Alverez feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position. Alverez postures up.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Alverez accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand. Alverez trying to control the position from guard on top but Howlett is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Howlett trying to control the position.

Howlett is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent. Alverez distracts Howlett with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Alverez tries to free his leg and advance position but Howlett is retaining full guard. Howlett wants to sweep here but Alverez controlling him for the moment. Alverez decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Howlett, up you get! Alverez scores with a punch to the gut of his opponent. Alverez throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Howlett sees it coming and avoids it easily. Alverez thows a left - swing and a miss! Howlett looks to score with a jab to the body but Alverez is just out of range. Mike Alverez seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Howlett uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Alverez. Howlett lands with a shot to the body. The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Alverez misses with an uppercut. Howlett saw that one coming. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Mike Alverez dominated that round. The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!
Alverez has his takedown stuffed and Howlett counters with a quick right hand to the jaw. Alverez throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Howlett sees it coming and avoids it easily. Alverez darts in and out, connecting with a jab. Alverez throws a hook but Howlett blocks it. Alverez jabbing away but nothing is landing. Howlett shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Alverez as he avoids it easily. Howlett fails miserably with a takedown attempt. Howlett swings for the body but Alverez moves out of range.
Alverez lands a jab to Howlett's midsection. Alverez throws a big shot that misses. Alverez swings and misses with a hook to the body.
That's one minute gone in the round. Howlett looks to throw the jab but Alverez is out of range. Alverez lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Howlett circles away quickly and effectively. Excellent takedown into side control there by Howlett. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Howlett throws an elbow but Alverez slips to the side and avoids it well. Alverez pushes Howlett away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Howlett gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control. Howlett thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead. Alverez managing to avoid any damage from the strikes thrown by Howlett.
Howlett working away. Alverez is looking for a sweep. Alverez manages to work his way to half guard, despite Howlett's best efforts.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Alverez gets full guard. Howlett trying to control but Alverez is working from the bottom. Howlett stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Alverez swivels though and keeps the full guard. Alverez not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Howlett is in close to Alverez's body, working some short punches and elbows. Alverez keeping full guard, as Howlett tries to pass. Alverez working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Howlett. Alverez manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Howlett manages to get himself to full guard.
Howlett is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle. Howlett is breathing heavily. Howlett has an active guard here but Alverez has managed to pass into half guard.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Alverez passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Howlett! Alverez controlling from the full mount. Alverez has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent. Howlett is looking to improve his position but Alverez isn't that keen on the idea.
That's four minutes gone in the round. There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action. Howlett regains half guard. Alverez works his way into full mount! Howlett tries to reverse the position but Alverez maintains control. Alverez dominating with strikes here. Alverez can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Howlett is looking to escape. Alverez breaks from Howlett's wrist control and lands an elbow. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Mike Alverez dominated that second round. OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round!

Howlett is rocked! Howlett is wiping some vaseline out of his eye. Alverez doesn't give a rats ass about fair play and cracks him with a massive hook to the side of the head! Howlett crumples to the floor out cold! The cornerman is going to be in Howlett's bad books for that mishap!
