PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Terry Bogard (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Matt Pettis (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Well, the cameraman is lingering on a pretty young lady for a bit too long there. Keep your eyes on the fighters buddy or you'll miss the fighter intros!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Terry Bogard!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Matt Pettis!
The judges for this bout are Shirou Masuda, Taro Takaoka and Sosuke Kotani.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Pettis slaps away a takedown attempt from Bogard, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Pettis swats away the attempt to clinch by Bogard.
Pettis fails with a takedown attempt.
Pettis tries to clinch but Bogard is having none of it.
Bogard has a takedown stuffed.
Bogard plants his feet and lands a nice head kick!


It looks like Matt Pettis has been cut.
Bogard is looking to clinch.
Pettis tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Bogard tries for a takedown but Pettis circles away easily

and Pettis counters with a single leg into guard. Bogard didn't expect that.

Bogard has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Pettis is working away from the top position though.

Pettis lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning.

Bogard is working to get back to half guard.
The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Pettis cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!
Pettis connects with a couple of good shots from mount.
Bogard regains half guard.
Pettis takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.
Bogard is not content to let Pettis control the position.

Pettis is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Bogard defends it well.

Pettis takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
Bogard knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Pettis on the ground.
Pettis wants to lay and pray for a moment but Bogard keeps working.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Pettis lands a nice short elbow.
Bogard is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Pettis scores with a couple of nice shots.
Pettis is pressing down on Bogard's thigh, looking to free his foot. Bogard is holding on for now.

Pettis is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.

Pettis is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Pettis trying to control from half guard but Bogard is working away.
Bogard is looking for a sweep. Pettis is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Pettis is trying to control. Bogard wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Matt Pettis dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Matt Pettis's cut.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Pettis shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Bogard sprawls well. Bogard wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Pettis gets slowly back to his feet.

and Bogard counters with a single leg into guard. Pettis didn't expect that.
Bogard is fighting to break Pettis's control of his arms but Pettis is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.

Pettis pushes Bogard off and scrambles back to his feet.
Bogard tries a head kick but it misses.

Bogard closes the distance and clinches up with Pettis, looking for a takedown. Bogard pushes Pettis against the cage but Pettis circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Pettis fails to land with a series of punches.
Pettis wants to clinch up but Bogard keeps it at a distance.
Pettis tries to clinch but fails miserably

and Bogard counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Bogard.

Pettis has his foot on Bogard's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Bogard works his way back into a safe position though.
Pettis wants to sweep but no luck.
Pettis bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Bogard's guard.
Pettis pushes down on Bogard's leg and manages to get into half guard.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Pettis in particular looking to stall.
Pettis throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.

Bogard wants to control but Pettis is keeping busy and won't allow it.

Pettis is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Bogard sees it coming and defends easily.

Pettis stands up from half guard... He's had enough of that ground malarky for the time being.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Bogard closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Pettis did well to prevent Bogard getting side control.

Pettis bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Bogard's guard.

Pettis content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots.

Bogard looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Bogard pulls Pettis in close to his closed guard and prevents Pettis from doing any damage or advancing position.
Pettis wants to control from the top but Bogard keeps moving.
Pettis has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Pettis is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Bogard keeping moving, preventing Pettis from controlling successfully.

Pettis gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.
No joy there for Pettis, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Pettis looks to land a combination. Bogard sees it coming but can only parry a couple of the shots.
Pettis misses with a jab, cross combination.
Pettis throws a chopping leg kick but Bogard manages to avoid taking any serious damage.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Pettis shoots for a double leg takedown but Bogard sprawls well. He's pushed Pettis's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

Pettis shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Bogard is trying to defend but Pettis finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
Bogard is trying to stand up here but Pettis is controlling him well.

A close second round but Matt Pettis will probably get the nod - 10:9.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!


Bogard shoots in but Pettis avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Pettis misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Pettis is trying hard to land a takedown here. Bogard sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.

Both fighters are breathing heavily.
No joy there for Pettis, who threw a few shots but didn't land.

Bogard displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Pettis.
Terry Bogard has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Matt Pettis.
Bogard throws a body kick but he was well out of range there.
Pettis dives in and grabs Bogard's left leg, looking for a takedown. Bogard pushes down on Pettis's head and hops out.
Bogard scores to the head and body with a nice combination!

We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

Pettis passes the guard and advances to mount!
Pettis takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

Pettis has the hooks in. Bogard is trying to push off one leg but he has to do so cautiously to avoid being submitted.

Pettis looking for the rear naked choke. And he's got it! Bogard taps!
