PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Kris Burns (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Lee Brown (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Lee Brown told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Kris Burns!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Lee Brown!
The judges for this bout are Ian Loll, Dillan Fox and Steve Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Burns clinches up with Brown and pushes him back against the cage.

Brown has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but Burns regains guard immediately.
Burns is controlling Brown's posture.
Burns trying to control the position.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Brown accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Brown wants to control from the top but Burns keeps moving.

Brown tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Brown has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Brown is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Burns moves into full guard.
Brown with a flurry of punches that miss.
Burns tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Brown working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.

Hammerfist, elbow! yells Brown's corner. There ya go! There ya go!

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Kris Burns.

Brown closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

Brown is looking to take a break and control but Burns is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Brown goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Burns rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Brown's guard! Nice work there by Burns!

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


A telegraphed takedown attempt from Burns is defended easily by Brown.

Brown has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Kris Burns.

Burns pushes down on Brown's leg and manages to get into half guard.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Burns lands a nice short elbow.
Burns perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
Brown is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

Burns is keen to just control but Brown is a slippery customer.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.

Burns seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Brown for as long as he can get away with.

Burns is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Brown is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.

Brown takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.

Burns is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Brown to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Brown shrugs it off.

Burns is really struggling to control Brown but he's trying to hold on to the position.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Burns thows a huge punch but Brown dodges it nicely.
Burns wants to take a breather but Brown is having none of it.

The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Brown is looking for a sweep. Burns is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
