PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Derek Scarlatti (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and David Kim (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Kim is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Dayman. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, David Kim!
The judges for this bout are Eliza Hachem, Winston Howard and Bruno Hogan.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kim stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Kim wants it to stay on the feet.
Kim works his jab well there, keeping his opponent at a distance.
Scarlatti is looking to clinch.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Scarlatti is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Kim to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Kim shrugs it off.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Kim can do anything to dispel that myth.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Scarlatti avoids the attempt from Kim to control.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Scarlatti tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
Scarlatti misses with some ground and pound and Kim recovers position to half guard.
Kim tries to roll over but Scarlatti keeps him under control.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

David Kim dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Kim tries to bum rush Scarlatti with a series of wild strikes but Scarlatti uses good footwork to avoid the assault.

Scarlatti tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Kim paws at him with a jab and circles away.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Kim has Scarlatti pressed against the cage, preventing Scarlatti from circling away and getting back to striking at range.

Kim is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Scarlatti.

and Kim counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Scarlatti's guard now.

Kim throws a strike but Scarlatti rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.
Scarlatti is looking to work some ground and pound but Kim has wrist control.
Scarlatti stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Kim swivels though and keeps the full guard.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.

Kim closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Scarlatti to the mat! Scarlatti manages to get full guard.
Scarlatti is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Scarlatti not landing any meaningful shots this time.
