PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Frank Alves (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Apollo Creed (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Apollo Creed told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Frank Alves!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Apollo Creed!
The judges for this bout are Felipe Paraventi, Leandro Rodrigues and Matheus Silva.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Creed rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Alves moves out of range and avoids them all easily.

Creed has managed to clinch.
Alves gets underhooks to prevent Creed's takedown attempt.
Creed drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Alves gets the underhooks and prevents it.
Creed drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Frank Alves has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Apollo Creed.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Alves has Creed pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Creed manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.
Alves is pressed up against the cage. Creed has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Alves down to the mat. Alves avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.

Alves drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.

Creed bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Alves's guard.
Creed missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
Creed is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Creed has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Alves can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Creed controls the pace.

We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Apollo Creed wasn't active enough on the ground.
Alves shoots for a double leg takedown but Creed sprawls well. He's pushed Alves's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Both fighters are looking to counter, which isn't making for the most exciting fight in the world.

Creed's corner calls for a 1,2 combination and Creed duly obliges.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Alves tries for a takedown but Creed sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Creed moves into range and throws a lovely three punch combination.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Alves walks into a jab.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Apollo Creed dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Creed stuffs the takedown.
Alves shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Creed sprawls well. Creed wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Alves gets slowly back to his feet.

No luck for Alves with that takedown attempt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Frank Alves. That's going to take a lot out of him.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Creed swinging wildly here.

No joy there for Creed, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Creed throws a nice looking combination but Alves bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Alves shoots in but Creed avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Creed tries to clinch up.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Apollo Creed showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!


Creed closes the distance and lands a one-two.
Creed stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Creed wants it to stay on the feet.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Creed misses with a few strikes there.

Creed scores with a nice one two combo and darts back out of range to avoid anything coming in the opposite direction.
Creed tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.

Creed stuffs the takedown attempt from Alves. Alves gets slowly back to his feet.

Creed has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but Alves regains guard immediately.
Creed's corner is telling him to maintain position.
Alves keeping moving, preventing Creed from controlling successfully.
Creed stopping the sweep attempt from Alves.
Creed trying to stand up but can't free himself from Alves's guard.

Alves keeping full guard, as Creed tries to pass.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Apollo Creed was stalling too much, according to the referee.
Creed misses with a double jab.

And that's the end of the fight!
Apollo Creed comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Creed has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
