Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Alain Martel!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Marcus Volette!
The judges for this bout are Steve Smith, William Peck and Trevor Gratis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Martel throws a right and a left that Volette avoids nicely.
Martel tries to clinch up but Volette circles away and keeps his distance.
Martel tries to clinch but Volette moves out of range.
Volette moves in looking to clinch but Martel pushes him off.
Volette throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Volette throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
Volette fails in his attempt to clinch.
Martel lands with a slapping head kick.
Volette swings away with a leg kick that misses.

Volette moves into the clinch.
Martel is trying to break the clinch but Volette has him pressed against the cage.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Martel tries to pull guard but Volette won't allow it.
The pace really dropping off here, momentarily.
Martel gets a warning from the ref for wasting time.

Volette breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

Martel clinches up with Volette and pushes him back against the cage.

Martel pushes off an throws an elbow but Volette leans to the side and avoids it. We're back to clinching against the cage.
Martel is struggling to control the position.
Volette looking for a takedown.
Volette goes for a takedown attempt but Martel pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.

Volette goes for a takedown in the clinch but Martel prevents it.
Alain Martel has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Marcus Volette.

The pace slowing considerably in the clinch, as Martel takes a break from that fighting nonsense to think about the finer things in life.
Martel throws an elbow but it's blocked.
Volette is trying to drag Martel to the mat but Martel just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.

Volette is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Martel pulls him back up using the underhooks.

Volette goes for a takedown attempt but Martel pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.

Martel rushes Volette and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
Martel gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Volette.

Volette tries to keep at a distance but Martel has taken the fight into the clinch.
Come on Martel - let's have some action - none of this stalling nonsense.

Martel has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Volette uses from the top position.
Martel pulls Volette in close to his closed guard and prevents Volette from doing any damage or advancing position.
Martel is looking to stand up but Volette isn't so interested in that idea.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Martel gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.

Volette jumps guard but Martel stands there with Volette around his waist. Volette gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.

Volette is breathing heavily.
Martel is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Martel tries for a takedown but Volette manages to get underhooks.

Alain Martel has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Marcus Volette.

Volette won't allow Martel to get back to his feet.

Martel wants to sweep but no luck.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Martel moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body.
Good exchange - Martel coming out on top.
Martel closes this distance looking for a takedown but Volette circles away.
Martel throws a series of punches but Volette moves out of range.
Martel lands a high kick!
Volette throws a lazy head kick

and Martel counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Martel.
Martel is clearly stalling here... Pick up the pace son.

Martel manages to break the clinch.
Martel pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Volette throws a nice looking combination but Martel bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Martel misses with a head kick.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Martel darts in and clinches Volette up against the cage.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Volette slips a jab and a cross from Martel.

Martel gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Volette to score an easy takedown into full guard.
Volette wants to control from the top but Martel keeps moving.
Volette has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Martel is proving hard to escape from.

Volette wants to stand but Martel is controlling his posture from full guard.

Volette thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Martel is trying to control the position but Volette postures up.
Martel manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Alain Martel is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Martel seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Volette for as long as he can get away with.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Martel has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Alain Martel.
Well Martel has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
