Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Jay Bone (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Daniel Maia (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The atmosphere really building for this one as we go over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Bone throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle. That's one minute gone in the round. Maia lands with a cross to side of his opponent's head. Maia throws a nice hook to the body that draws an oooh from the crowd. Maia fails with a takedown attempt. Bone tries a switch kick but it misses it's target. Some wild striking there from Maia.
Bone looks for the body kick but Maia saw that one coming. Bone uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Maia.
Maia decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard. Maia trying to control the action but Bone is working from the bottom. Bone is controlling Maia's trapped leg to prevent Maia from advancing to side control. Maia perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.

He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard. Maia wants to lay and pray for a moment but Bone keeps working. Maia keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action. Maia trying to pass the guard but Bone defending well. Maia seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense. Bone is not content to let Maia control the position. Bone throws a decent looking leg kick but it doesn't land clean. Maia scores with a jab. Bone acknowledges it with a nod of the head. Maia stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush. A combination from Maia does no damage. Bone pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Bone fakes a jab and throws a low kick but Maia checks it well. Bone looks to land a body kick but Maia moved away. Maia throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Bone throws a push kick but Maia slaps the foot to one side. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Maia lands a body shot.

Maia throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Bone on the side of the head. Bone blocks a jab. Sloppy strikes from Maia. Those never looked like landing. Maia lands with a nice body punch. A slapping body kick lands there for Bone. Maia thows a body shot but no joy. Bone has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. That must have hurt him.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Maia tries to score a power double leg takedown but Bone sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Maia somewhat. Bone defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Maia. Maia shoots in and gets a takedown into Bone's guard. Maia stands and throws Bone's legs to the side, diving into side control. Maia controlling from side mount.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Maia swings around for an armbar but Bone sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Maia's guard. Maia wants to sweep but no luck. Maia is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Bone defends well. Bone postures up.

The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work. Maia is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Bone doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Maia. Bone is not content to let Maia control the position. Maia wants to pass to mount but Bone is defending the position.

That's four minutes gone in the round. Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless. Maia wants to control from the top but Bone keeps moving. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Bone keeping full guard, as Maia tries to pass. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jay Bone has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet. Maia scores with a sloppy right hand. Bone should have avoided that one.

Both of our modern day gladiators look out of it here - an gruelling 5 rounds of action taking it's toll on them, no doubt. Jay Bone has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
