PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Paulo Soares (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Carlos Cobra (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Soares comes to the cage accompanied by AC/DC - Hells Bells. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Paulo Soares!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Carlos Cobra!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Cesar, Emerson Jorge and Mauricio Rocha.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Cobra has a takedown stuffed.
Soares throws a wild combination but nothing lands.

Cobra clinches up with Soares and pushes him back against the cage.
Cobra stops a takedown attempt from Soares.
Soares prevents the takedown attempt.
Soares wants a takedown.
Cobra gets underhooks to prevent Soares's takedown attempt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Paulo Soares. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Soares has Cobra pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Cobra manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.

Cobra has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Soares uses from the top position.
Soares distracts Cobra with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.

Cobra really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Soares. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Soares wants to control from the top but Cobra keeps moving.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Cobra has his foot on Soares's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Soares works his way back into a safe position though.
Cobra trying to keep a closed guard but Soares is proving a slippery customer.

Cobra looks to be working for a triangle here. Oh, it looks like he might have it! Soares has picked Cobra up and slammed him! Cobra can't keep hold of the triangle and Soares manages to pass to side control!
Soares takes a little break here. Cobra wants to take advantage but he is being controlled well.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Cobra is not content to let Soares control the position.
Soares fails to land a wild elbow strike.
You can see the frustration on Cobra's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

Soares has worked his way into a potential kimura here. Cobra is trying to get out of the position but his squirming has just got him deeper into trouble. Soares yanks on the arm and Cobra is forced to tap due to a very painful looking submission! Nice work by Soares.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:05 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Paulo Soares!
