PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Dave Yoma (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Arthur Jackson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Jackson is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: Strange Disease. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Dave Yoma!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 8 - 1, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Arthur Jackson!
The judges for this bout are Thiago Cunha, Mauricio Rocha and Paulo Santos.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Yoma tries a low kick but Jackson avoids it.
Yoma tries to clinch but Jackson is having none of it.

Jackson clinches up with Yoma and pushes him back against the cage.
Jackson lands an elbow that stopped Yoma in his tracks for a moment.


It looks like Dave Yoma has been cut.
Jackson is trying to break the clinch but Yoma has him pressed against the cage.
Yoma misses with the head strike.
Yoma wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
Jackson blocks a knee to the body. He'll have a nicely bruised forearm in the morning.

Yoma breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Yoma fails in his attempt to clinch.
A slapping leg kick lands for Yoma.
Jackson moves out of range as Yoma throws a body kick.
Jackson throws an overhand right that lands on Yoma's shoulder, as Yoma tries to avoid the shot.
Yoma lands with a cross to side of his opponent's head.
Jackson blocks a head kick by Yoma.
No luck for Yoma with that takedown attempt.
Jackson shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Yoma defends it nicely.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Yoma.
Jackson is looking to work his way out of this bad position but Yoma is controlling him well.
Jackson is looking for a sweep.
Jackson takes an elbow right on the bridge of the nose and winces in pain.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Yoma looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.
Jackson takes a nasty elbow to the side of the head.
Yoma tries to move into full mount but can't pass Jackson's legs.
Both fighters really going for it on the ground here!

Yoma throwing strikes but Jackson manages to buck up and roll into a nice reversal - now he's on top in side control!
Jackson works to advance to full mount. Yoma defends for a few seconds but eventually he succumbs.
Yoma is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
Jackson content just to control the position here.
Yoma wants to control but Jackson is having none of it.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Yoma throwing hammer fists to the chest of Jackson. What's that going to do exactly?
Jackson wants to control the pace but Yoma is squirming around nicely.
Yoma is in all sorts of trouble here.
The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Jackson won't let Yoma get back to his feet... He wants to keep the fight where it is for now.
Yoma working to try and regain half guard.
Jackson trying to control but Yoma is having none of it.
Jackson controlling from mount.

Jackson is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Yoma can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.

Jackson is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Yoma to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Yoma shrugs it off.
Jackson looks gassed!
Yoma sneaks a leg back under and regains half guard and is working straight away to try and get back to guard. He hasn't managed just yet though.
Jackson seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Yoma does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Yoma gets full guard.
Yoma is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Yoma throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
Jackson regains full guard. Nicely done.

Jackson is trying to control the position but Yoma postures up.

Jackson had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Yoma defends it easily.

Jackson has his foot on Yoma's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Yoma works his way back into a safe position though.
Yoma lands a couple of digs.
Yoma scoring with punches to the head and body.
Yoma slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
Yoma trying to control the position but Jackson is working away.

Yoma thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

Yoma has hold of Jackson's arm here. He's working for an Americana. It looks like he might have it! Jackson tries to escape but he's just digging himself in deeper - Yoma cranks the arm and Jackson screams in pain! The ref makes a decision and ends the fight before the tap - no complains from Jackson, who is just happy to have his arm attached to his body.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:59 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Americana). Dave Yoma!
