Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Luiz Costa (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Damian Maia (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Rumors backstage are that the fighters have been paid to keep it standing but we know that would never happen in MMA!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
5 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Luiz Costa! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
5 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Damian Maia! The judges for this bout are Timothy Bukovac, and Frank Antenori.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Maia fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt. Maia fails in his attempt to clinch. Costa darts in trying to clinch and Maia counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Maia. Costa tries a knee to the head but he's missed.
Costa gets an overhook and lands an elbow to the side of the head. Costa is looking to score with knees to the body. Maybe he'll change it up and go body then head. Maia is defending well for now. Costa putting his Muay Thai to good use. He has Maia in a tight clinch and is doing some damage with knees to the body. Costa lands an elbow that stopped Maia in his tracks for a moment.
It looks like Damian Maia has been cut. Costa lands an elbow inside that Maia shrugs off. Costa lands a knee to the body.
Maia looks gassed! Maia drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Costa comes over the top with an elbow. That landed flush. Costa working Maia over with knees to the body. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Costa lands a glancing elbow in the clinch. Maia takes an elbow to the forehead. Kneeeeees! The crowd are calling for knees to the body. Costa obliges. Costa using the Thai clinch to land knees to the body.

Costa creates a bit of space for himself and sneaks an elbow through Maia's defenses.
That has opened up Damian Maia's cut even more. Costa lands an elbow just above Maia 's eye. Maia takes an elbow to the forehead.
That's one minute gone in the round. Costa connects with a nasty looking knee right to Maia's face.

Maia takes a knee to the side of the body. Costa unloads a knee to the mid-section. Costa landing knees to the body.
Maia can't get the takedown.
Luiz Costa has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Damian Maia. Costa creates a bit of space for himself and sneaks an elbow through Maia's defenses. Maia fails to pull guard.
Costa lands a nice knee to the body. Costa comes over the top with an elbow. That landed flush. Costa working Maia over with knees to the body. A knee to the head by Costa.

Costa crunches a lovely knee into Maia's ribcage. Maia on the defensive, avoiding the knees to the body.
Costa gets underhooks to prevent Maia's takedown attempt.
Maia takes a knee to the side of the body. Maia goes for a takedown attempt but Costa pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
Costa wants to clinch but Maia slips to the side and Maia counters with a single leg into guard. Costa didn't expect that. Maia trying to control the position from guard on top but Costa is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Costa knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Maia on the ground.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Maia drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Costa manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Maia has Costa in his guard. Costa has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Costa trying to control but Maia is working from the bottom. Maia manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
Maia tries to control but Costa wriggling away. Costa holding onto his opponent's waist for dear life, as Maia tries to land some strikes to get him to release his grip.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Maia swings around for an armbar but it's a sloppy attempt and Costa is now in Maia's guard. A big mistake from Maia there, giving up the dominant position! Costa would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard. Maia is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent. Maia wants to hit a switch here but Costa passes into full mount! Oh no, disaster for Maia there! Costa looking to control but Maia is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it. Costa lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning. Maia is squirming around, avoiding Costa's attempts to control the action. Maia is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
Maia is persisting with the attempt to improve his position. Costa with some aggressive grappling here. He's looking for submissions here, rather than waiting for the opportunity to counter.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Costa is stalling here but it's allowed Maia to get half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Luiz Costa dominated that round. The cut man is working on Damian Maia's cut. The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.
Costa tries to clinch but fails miserably and Maia counters with a shoot takedown. Costa fights it but they end up in guard. Maia postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Costa is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Maia, into his guard. Maia has a closed guard, preventing Costa from standing up. Maia looking for a guillotine here but Costa defends easily.
Costa trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet. Maia has his foot on Costa's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Costa works his way back into a safe position though. Costa wants to control from the top but Maia keeps moving. Maia manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Maia is breathing heavily.
That's one minute gone in the round. Maia wants to finish this one by submission but Costa is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Maia. Maia swings around for an armbar but it's a sloppy attempt and Costa is now in Maia's guard. A big mistake from Maia there, giving up the dominant position! Costa is looking to stand up but Maia won't let him. Maia looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Costa is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena. Maia is working an open guard so Costa takes the opportunity to get back to his feet. Costa clinches but Maia breaks the clinch and Maia counters with a shoot takedown. Costa fights it but they end up in guard. Maia stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Costa swivels though and keeps the full guard. Costa has Maia pulled in close to control his posture. Maia wants to pass the guard but Costa is keeping the position. Maia is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Costa is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Costa has escaped and now he's on top!
That's three minutes gone in the round. Maia looking for a triangle here. Costa is fighting it but it looks tight! Maia pulls the arm across and this one won't last much longer! Nope, Costa is tapping out - this one is all over!
