Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Ground Game (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Renato Desouza (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Ground Game has the edge in experience - let's see if he can make that count tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Ground Game!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Renato Desouza!
The judges for this bout are Summer Carpenter, John Mangel and Damien Edna.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Desouza feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Desouza is stalling in the full guard.
Desouza throws a strike but Game rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.
Desouza is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Game trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Desouza manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Game manages to get himself to full guard.
Desouza trying to control the position from guard on top but Game is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Game wants to sweep but no luck.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Game pulls Desouza in to control the position.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Game leaves Desouza with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
No luck for Desouza with that takedown attempt.

Game gets caught flat footed, as Desouza shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Game controlling the position.
Game not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Game keeping moving, preventing Desouza from controlling successfully.
Desouza controls the pace of the fight for a moment.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Game has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.

Desouza gets caught flat footed, as Game shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.

Game stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Desouza swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Desouza can't keep his opponent in guard - Game advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.

Game passes to full mount!
Game trying to control but Desouza is having none of it.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Game is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, Desouza has managed to escape the submission attempt.

Game is working for a guillotine from mount but Desouza frees his head quite easily.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Ground Game will probably get the nod.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


Game shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Desouza but Desouza pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Desouza tries to clinch but Game moves out of range.

and Game counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
Desouza is looking for a sweep. Game is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Game could do with loosing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Game content to control rather than advance.
Desouza manages to get to full guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Game is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
Desouza keeping full guard, as Game tries to pass.
Desouza is trying to keep Game in close.
Game's corner is telling him to maintain position.
Desouza is trying to control the position but Game postures up.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

and Game counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Game.

Game looking to pass the guard.
Desouza keeping moving, preventing Game from controlling successfully.

Game drops back looking for a leg! Desouza is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Desouza manages to kick Game off! Game jumps back into Desouza's guard.
Desouza wants to sweep but no luck.
Ground Game overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Game looking to sit in guard and control but Desouza gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Desouza is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Game working for a triangle but Desouza defends it easily.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Game trying to control the position.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Desouza stays in close to Game's body and controls the position.
Desouza trying to control the position from guard on top but Game is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Ground Game dominated that second round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!



Desouza looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Game is looking to improve his position.
Game is trying to control but can't.
Game wants to get back to his feet.
Desouza perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Desouza is just content to waste time from the top position. Game takes advantage of the situation and regains full guard.
Desouza looking to sit in guard and control but Game gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Game trying to control the position from guard on top but Desouza is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Game is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Desouza is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Desouza has escaped and now he's on top!

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

Game looking to control.

Desouza drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Game manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Desouza has Game in his guard.

Desouza escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Game gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Game looking to pass the guard.
Desouza is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Game drops back, looking for a kneebar! Desouza looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Desouza looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Desouza!
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Desouza tries to move into full mount but can't pass Game's legs.
Desouza in side control, throwing shots but Game defends.
Renato Desouza has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Ground Game is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Desouza looking to control but instead Game has slipped a leg in, to regain half guard.

And that's the end of the fight!
Renato Desouza comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Game has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
