PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Danny Joe (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Aaron Hall (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Hall has chosen Diamond Eyes as his entrance music. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Danny Joe!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Aaron Hall!
The judges for this bout are Alec Ball, Gregory Folan and Ian Loll.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Joe tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Joe takes a punch to the jaw and another one to the bread basket.
Joe tries to close the distance and clinch up but Hall swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Joe takes one on the chin but seems OK.
Joe tries to clinch up.

Hall clinches up against the cage.
Hall tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Joe just stands there and leans against the cage.
Hall has had enough of the clinch but Joe keeps him there for the moment.
Joe tries to break free but Hall pushes him back against the cage.
Hall wants a takedown.
Both guys are working to get underhooks.
Some stalling of biblical proportions here from Hall.
Joe gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Hall.
Danny Joe has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Aaron Hall.
A frustrated look appears on Hall's face as he tries to break the clinch.
Joe unloads a knee to the mid-section.

Hall blocks a knee to the body. He'll have a nicely bruised forearm in the morning.
Joe gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Hall.

Hall is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.

Joe breaks from the clinch.
Joe dives in and grabs Hall's left leg, looking for a takedown. Hall pushes down on Joe's head and hops out.
Joe ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Hall moves away.
Hall tries to close the distance and clinch up but Joe swats him away and circles back towards the center.

and Hall counters with a nice double leg into side control. Joe won't be happy with that.

Joe is putting a lot of effort into getting back to his feet here.

Joe is looking to regain half guard here but Hall keeps moving and retains side control.
Hall trying to control the position but Joe is working away.

Hall tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.

Joe is looking to slip a leg under and get half guard but Hall is one step ahead and moves to full mount!

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Hall working to secure an arm triangle but it's not happening for him just yet.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Hall get's back to his feet.
Joe doesn't succeed with the takedown

and Hall moves into the clinch.
Hall has Joe pressed against the cage, preventing Joe from circling away and getting back to striking at range.
Hall wants to break free but Joe has control.
Hall tries to pull guard but Joe holds him up against the cage and eventually Hall drops back down to his feet.
Joe is looking to break free of the clinch but Hall has double underhooks.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Aaron Hall dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.



Hall moves into the clinch.
Joe tries to land a knee to the body but he is off balance and Hall avoids it.
Hall drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Joe gets the underhooks and prevents it.
Hall blocks a knee to the body. He'll have a nicely bruised forearm in the morning.
Hall tries to stall but Joe uses the opportunity to gain a better position.

Hall keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Joe's efforts to push away.

Hall's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

Hall gets the takedown into side control.
Joe is trying to control Hall's posture but Hall avoids it.
Hall remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Check out the look on Hall's face as he threw that strike - that's one determined fighter!
A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.
Joe is trying to work for a sweep but Hall has mounted him!

Hall sends his fist crashing into the mat - the crowd let out a collective ooooooh. Let's hope he's not broken it!

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

Hall stands up from the dominant position. He obviously fancies his chances standing.
Joe tries a head kick but it misses.
Joe tries to grapple but his opponent circles

and Hall counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.

Hall trying to control the position from guard on top but Joe is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Hall must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Hall is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
Joe is looking to sweep but instead, Hall has passed into half guard.
Hall takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Hall stands up and beckons Joe to join him on the feet.
Hall scores with a one two! Joe had his feet all tangled up there and couldn't avoid the strikes.
Joe has his takedown stuffed

and Hall counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.

Hall stands up from half guard.
Hall scores with a body shot.

Hall moves into range and clinches up with Joe.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Hall's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Hall throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Joe.
Aaron Hall is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Hall closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Joe quickly recovers to half guard.
Hall is nestled in close to Joe, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Aaron Hall showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!



Hall pushes Joe up against the cage in a clinch.
Joe keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Hall's efforts to push away.
Joe tries to stall but Hall uses the opportunity to gain a better position.
Joe tries to land knees in the clinch but Hall avoids the damage to the body.
Hall lands an elbow inside that Joe shrugs off.
Joe is looking to score with knees to the body. Maybe he'll change it up and go body then head. Hall is defending well for now.
Hall's corner are urging him to control the action in the clinch for a moment, rather than mount any serious offense. I'm sure the crowd appreciate those instructions... not.
Joe trying to control the position but instead, Hall has worked for underhooks and has pushed Joe into the cage.
Joe goes for a takedown in the clinch but Hall prevents it.
Hall tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Hall gets the body lock takedown. After a quick scramble, Joe regains guard.

Hall gets to his feet. Joe looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!

Hall tries to close the distance and clinch up but Joe swats him away and circles back towards the center.
The fight stays on the outside here - Hall looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Hall is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Joe's half guard.
Hall looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.
Well, if Hall is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.

Joe has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Hall is working away from the top position though.

Hall throwing shots but Joe is blocking nicely.
Hall is figuring out what he wants to do next.
Hall's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Aaron Hall.
Hall lands with a nice body punch.

Hall clinches up with Joe and pushes him back against the cage.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Hall's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

and Hall counters with a single leg into guard. Joe didn't expect that.

Aaron Hall is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Hall tries to land knees in the clinch but Joe avoids the damage to the body.
Joe tries a body shot but Hall blocks it.

And that's the end of the fight!
Aaron Hall comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Hall winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
