PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Yoshi Sushi (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Franz Kafka (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Kafka has chosen Heartbeats as his entrance music. Franz Kafka will no doubt be looking to use his reach advantage to good effect.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts Kafka, as that shot connected.


It looks like Yoshi Sushi has been cut.
A punch lands to the side of Sushi 's head but he takes it in his stride.
Kafka waving his hands out in front of him, looking to distract Sushi.
Sushi ducks right into an uppercut from Kafka.
Franz Kafka seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Sushi ducks under a wild hook from Kafka.
Kafka is using his reach advantage to land shots from outside his opponent's range.

Kafka stumbles momentarily as he takes a strong leg kick from Sushi.

Kafka throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.

Sushi closes the distance and takes a jab right on the nose as he does so.
Sushi throws out a loose jab but Kafka uses good head movement to avoid it.
Sushi uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Kafka.
Kafka missing with a left hand there. Sushi was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.
Kafka throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Sushi takes a swing at Kafka's ribcage but misses.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Kafka is trying to get back to full guard.

Kafka is looking to control Sushi's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Kafka avoid being mounted?
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Sushi seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Kafka does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Sushi lands a nice leg kick that just misses Kafka's sensitive parts.

Kafka tries to score with an inside leg kick but telegraphs it and Sushi is able to avoid easily.

Sushi looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Kafka is fending him off so far but Sushi persists. Nope, Kafka circles away and we're back to standing.

Sushi throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

Kafka scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Sushi doesn't seem bothered though.
Sushi throws a looping overhand right but Kafka ducks down to avoid it.
Franz Kafka is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Kafka throws a series of punches but Sushi avoids them all with ease.

Sushi takes a big uppercut there. He seems a bit wobbly but no, he's OK.
Kafka lands with a thumping leg kick.

Kafka ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.

Sushi closes the distance and takes a jab right on the nose as he does so.
Sushi takes a body punch but keeps moving.
Sushi moves out of range as Kafka strikes.
Kafka is moving around nicely and scores here with a single head shot.
Sushi feints with a shoulder and throws a nice leg kick to Kafka's calf.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Kafka uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Sushi.
Kafka throws an overhand right that lands on Sushi's shoulder, as Sushi tries to avoid the shot.
Kafka looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.

A bone on bone clash there as Kafka blocks the leg kick.
Sushi motions for Kafka to come forward. Sushi throws a leg kick but it misses it's target.
Kafka is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Sushi.
Kafka throws the left hand but Sushi avoids the punch easily.
Kafka scores with a nice right hand.
Sushi throws a feint and then finishes with a kick to the body.
Sushi bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
Sushi fails with an attempt to clinch.
Kafka misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Sushi.
That's a knee to de groin and it's over and out! Kafka crumples to the ground after an illegal strike from Sushi - the referee stops the clock and Kafka gets 5 minutes to recover from that one. "I'm sorry" says Sushi. Kafka manages to get back to his feet and the fight resumes.

Sushi does a little shimmy and throws a leg kick. The leg kick missed by a considerable margin though, making him look a little bit silly for doing the shimmy.

and Sushi counters with a nice double leg into side control. Kafka won't be happy with that.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Sushi thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

Sushi is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Kafka has escaped the position, nice work there.
Kafka can't do much from the bottom here.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Kafka might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Sushi kaven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Yoshi Sushi will probably get the nod.
Both fighters have cut men working on them during the interval.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!

Kafka has his front leg slapped to the side - a nice low kick landing there from Sushi.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Sushi stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Kafka swivels though and keeps the full guard.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

Sushi drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Sushi jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Sushi is looking to pass the guard... He's managed it - he's now in full mount!
Sushi wants to control the pace but Kafka is squirming around nicely.

Sushi jumps to the side looking to secure the arm triangle…. Ooooh, that looks tight… Kafka is gargling but he's managed to escape! Nice work there by Kafka and Sushi has given up the dominant position trying to land that submission.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Kafka can do anything to dispel that myth.

I think Sushi has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
