Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Lee Mandrake (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mitsu Kawajire (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Kawajire has a niggling injury. He would have liked to come in 100% fit but that's not always possible. Lee Mandrake has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Lee Mandrake! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Mitsu Kawajire! The judges for this bout are Thiago Cunha, Felipe Paraventi and Seu Braga.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Mandrake throws a decent looking leg kick but it doesn't land clean. Mandrake throws a half hearted mid kick. The sound of bone on bone echoes around the arena as Kawajire checks a leg kick. Mandrake uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Kawajire. Mandrake moves out of range of the strikes. Mandrake moves out of range of the strikes. Mitsu Kawajire seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Kawajire misses with a wild body shot. Kawajire shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard. Mandrake is trying to stand back up but Kawajire is controlling him
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Mandrake wants to control but Kawajire is keeping busy.
Mandrake knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Kawajire on the ground. Kawajire working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that. Kawajire wants to pass to mount but Mandrake is defending the position. Kawajire looks gassed!

I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Kawajire connects with a nice short shot to Mandrake's temple. Kawajire looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Mandrake with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position. Kawajire has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan. Mandrake keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound. Mandrake wants to get back to his feet. Kawajire not landing any meaningful shots this time. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Mandrake's head. Kawajire is nestled in close to Mandrake, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure. Mandrake avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Kawajire. Kawajire not landing any meaningful shots this time. Kawajire drops an elbow to the side of Mandrake's head. Mandrake taking some punishment here, with Kawajire in his half guard. Kawajire thows a huge punch but Mandrake dodges it nicely.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily. Mandrake attempts a leg kick but it's missed by a good margin. Kawajire uses good footwork to get in and out, landing a nice hook. A jab from Kawajire misses. Kawajire moves out of range of the body kick. Mandrake is looking to land body kicks. Kawajire avoids a low kick by using good footwork. Kawajire looks to land a combination but Mandrake avoids it well. Kawajire swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target. The fight stays on the outside here - Mandrake looks like he's thinking about clinching though. Kawajire blocks a leg kick. Mandrake steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Kawajire. Kawajire checks a leg kick. Mandrake throws a chopping leg kick but Kawajire manages to avoid taking any serious damage.

Kawajire throws a lazy right hand but Mandrake sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily. Kawajire misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out. Mandrake throws out a leg kick but Kawajire moves out of range and Mandrake only half commits. Thud! ouch! good body kick from Mandrake - that will leave a mark!
Kawajire chopped to the floor by a nice leg kick but he springs right back up before Mandrake can pounce on him.

Mandrake throws a leg kick but Kawajire moved away. Mandrake shapes like he's going to throw a leg kick but settles back down. Mandrake pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way. Mandrake looks to land a body kick but Kawajire moved away.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Mandrake throws a half hearted mid kick. Kawajire fails with a takedown attempt. Lee Mandrake has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Mitsu Kawajire. Mandrake is looking to clinch. Mandrake misses with a low kick. Mandrake slips under a jab from Kawajire. Mandrake throws a decent looking leg kick but it doesn't land clean. Mandrake leaves Kawajire with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt. Mandrake is looking to clinch but Kawajire is avoiding it.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it. Mandrake throws a body kick but he was well out of range there. The fight stays on the outside here - Mandrake looks like he's thinking about clinching though. Ooooh, nice body kick lands from Mandrake. Kawajire shrugs it off though. Mandrake doesn't manage to clinch there - Kawajire circles away.
Kawajire shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Mandrake as he avoids it easily. Mandrake tries to clinch up. Mandrake throws a leg kick but Kawajire sees it coming and checks it nicely. Lee Mandrake is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs. Mandrake motions for Kawajire to come forward. Mandrake throws a leg kick but it misses it's target. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Kawajire on the wrong end of a nice low kick. He's acting like it's no big deal but he doesn't want to take many more of those. Mandrake has Kawajire up against the cage in a clinch.

Mandrake throws a front kick aimed at Kawajire's knee but Kawajire avoids it well. Mandrake fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Kawajire, pushing him back against the cage. Mandrake lands an elbow just above Kawajire 's eye. Kawajire on the defensive, avoiding the knees to the body.

Mandrake's corner are urging him to control the action in the clinch for a moment, rather than mount any serious offense. I'm sure the crowd appreciate those instructions... not. Kawajire managing to block the knees to the body from Mandrake.
