Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between John Firpo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jake Miller (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Jake Miller has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, John Firpo!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jake Miller!
The judges for this bout are Stewart Dunkirk, Daniel Franklin and Cecil Peabody.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Miller tries to close the distance and clinch but Firpo swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
No luck for Miller with that takedown attempt.
Firpo stuffs the takedown attempt from Miller. Miller gets slowly back to his feet.
Miller wants to clinch.
Miller is looking to clinch but Firpo is avoiding it.
Miller looks for a takedown but Firpo sprawls well.
John Firpo has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jake Miller.
Firpo throws out a token jab with nothing on it.

Miller gets a clinch.
Firpo working some nice short punches in the clinch.

Firpo fails with a takedown attempt from distance.

Miller prevents Firpo from breaking the clinch.

Firpo's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Miller displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Firpo throws out the jab.
Firpo tries to clinch up but Miller circles away and keeps his distance.
Miller tries to score a power double leg takedown but Firpo sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Miller somewhat.

Firpo misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Miller.
Firpo fakes a head shot and lands one to the body.
Miller fails with the takedown.
Miller ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.
Miller dodges the punch combination from Firpo.
Firpo is breathing heavily.
Miller slips a straight right by Firpo.
A combination from Miller does no damage.
Miller throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Firpo's waist but Firpo gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Miller off to one side.

Miller gets in close and instigates a clinch.

Firpo breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

Miller throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Firpo tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Miller is in Firpo's guard.
Miller controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Miller postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Miller is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Miller trying to control the position from guard on top but Firpo is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Jake Miller was stalling too much, according to the referee.
Firpo shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Firpo takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Miller shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Firpo as he avoids it easily.
Firpo tries to clinch up

and Miller counters with a nice double leg into side control. Firpo won't be happy with that.
Firpo stops Miller from passing to mount.
Miller controls the position.

Miller decides to take the fight back to the feet.

Miller moves into the clinch successfully.

Miller jumps guard.
Firpo throws and elbow that misses. Miller uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Firpo's guard. Nice move by Miller!

Miller distracts Firpo with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.
Miller showing good wrestling skills to control the position.
Firpo is looking to stand up but Miller isn't so interested in that idea.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Miller controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
Miller wants to control from the top but Firpo keeps moving.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Miller throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Firpo has his takedown stuffed

and Miller counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Miller in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.

Miller decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
Miller gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and Firpo counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt.
The fight stays on the outside here - Miller looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Firpo throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Miller moves into range and lands a nice leg kick.
Miller fails with an attempt to clinch.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Miller is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Firpo gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.

Miller works for the underhooks and manages to get a trip takedown into guard.

Miller stopping the sweep attempt from Firpo.
Firpo controls Miller momentarily but Miller frees himself.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Jake Miller hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.
Firpo has his takedown stuffed

and Miller counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Miller.

Firpo is working an open guard so Miller takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.
Miller looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Firpo is fending him off so far but Miller persists. Nope, Firpo circles away and we're back to standing.

so Miller counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Miller's corner is telling him to maintain position.
Firpo keeping moving, preventing Miller from controlling successfully.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Jake Miller.
Miller throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Firpo's waist but Firpo gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Miller off to one side.
Firpo keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Miller wants to clinch.
Miller cracks a nice hook into Firpo's ribs.
John Firpo seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Firpo shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

and Miller counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
Firpo is looking to control Miller's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Firpo avoid being mounted?
Miller is trying to get back to his feet now but his leg is trapped.

Miller decides to stand up.
Miller lands with a nice body punch.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Miller darts in and clinches Firpo up against the cage.
Both guys are working to get underhooks.
Firpo wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Miller has him pressed against the cage.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jake Miller showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! This is the final round!


Miller stalks Firpo and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Firpo's face. Firpo staggers backwards, shaken.
Firpo swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
A telegraphed right hand from Firpo misses the target.
Miller tries to clinch up but Firpo circles away and keeps his distance.
Miller changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Firpo tries to avoid it but Miller manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Firpo to the ground. Firpo escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

and Miller counters with a one-two to the body.
No joy there for Miller, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Firpo avoids the clinch attempt nicely.

Miller is trying to drag Firpo to the mat but Firpo just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.

Miller steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Firpo.
Firpo moves in looking to clinch but Miller pushes him off.
Miller uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Firpo.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

and Firpo holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.

Miller not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

Well, if Miller is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.

Miller wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Firpo, who protects the arm well.
Firpo is trying to work for a sweep but Miller has mounted him!

Miller is stalling here but it's allowed Firpo to get half guard.
Miller is trying to control. Firpo wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.

Miller is trying to get back to his feet now but his leg is trapped.

Jake Miller comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Miller has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
