PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Andre Johnson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Austin Morgan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Johnson comes to the cage accompanied by never gonna stop me. Morgan has chosen Drinkin Beer and Wastin Bullets as his entrance music. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Nice takedown defense from Johnson. No joy for Morgan on that attempt.
Johnson throws a head kick that misses.

Morgan clinches with his opponent.
Johnson is working hard here but doesn't seem to be able to control effectively, up against the cage.
Morgan keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Johnson's efforts to push away.
Johnson tries to land a knee to the body but he is off balance and Morgan avoids it.

Morgan jumps guard and drags Johnson to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.
Johnson is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Johnson wants to stand but Morgan is controlling his posture from full guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Morgan lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Johnson!

Morgan is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Johnson defends it well.

Johnson is looking to control Morgan's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Johnson avoid being mounted?
Morgan keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action.
Johnson is not content to let Morgan control the position.
Johnson is trying to maintain the position but Morgan is very close to passing his half guard.

Morgan is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Johnson has managed to free his arm - good work.
Johnson is pressing down on Morgan's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.

Morgan seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

Johnson is really struggling to control Morgan but he's trying to hold on to the position.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Morgan throws a body kick but he was well out of range there.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Morgan shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Johnson as he jumps to the side.
Johnson has his takedown stuffed

and Morgan counters with a takedown into side control.
Johnson is breathing heavily.

Morgan goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Johnson has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Morgan but great work by Johnson.
Johnson cracks Morgan with an elbow. That is naaassty.
Johnson lands a decent elbow from side control.
Morgan tries to buck Johnson off but Johnson is having none of it.
Johnson trying to control the action but Morgan is working from the bottom.
Johnson is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Austin Morgan dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Johnson gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily

so Morgan counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Johnson is controlling Morgan's posture.
Morgan trying to control the position from guard on top but Johnson is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Morgan is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Morgan is breathing heavily.
Morgan slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Austin Morgan.
Morgan tries to clinch but Johnson is having none of it.

Johnson shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Johnson showed some decent athleticism there.

Morgan is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Johnson is pressing down on Morgan's thigh, looking to free his foot. Morgan is holding on for now.

Morgan is refusing to be controlled, as Johnson sits in half guard.
Johnson thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.

Johnson moves into full mount! Morgan won't be happy about that!
Morgan doing his best to control the position. Can he escape?

Johnson with some aggressive grappling here. He's looking for submissions here, rather than waiting for the opportunity to counter.
Austin Morgan has got the better of the ground game so far.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Morgan flailing away with punches but nothing is landing.
Morgan is working to get back to half guard.
Morgan tries to lock up and control but Johnson gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
Johnson looking to control but Morgan is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
Johnson landing strikes, looking to finish!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Andre Johnson will probably get the nod.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!


Johnson with a lazy takedown attempt

Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Morgan in particular looking to stall.
Johnson is staying active underneath Morgan, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Morgan might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Johnson kaven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.
Johnson is looking for a sweep. Morgan is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

Morgan is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Johnson is just riding it out for now. Morgan eventually gives up the hold.
Johnson slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Morgan wants to control from the top but Johnson keeps moving.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Johnson is on top in guard.
Johnson wants to get up but he can't break Morgan's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Johnson is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Johnson connects with a nice short shot to Morgan's temple.
Morgan tries to roll over but Johnson keeps him under control.
Morgan wants to get back to full guard but Johnson has passed into side control.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Johnson controlling from the full mount.
Morgan really trying hard to get back to half guard here.
Johnson wants to control the pace but Morgan is squirming around nicely.
Morgan tries to lock up and control but Johnson gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.

And that's the end of the fight!
Austin Morgan comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Morgan has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
