Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Jose Thomas (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Pacho Mendieta (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Thomas's entrance music is 4 In the Morning. A fine choice. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
5 - 5 - 0, fighting out of New York, Jose Thomas! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Pacho Mendieta! The judges for this bout are Franklyn Lucas, Lou da Vinci and Dean Styles.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Thomas cracks Mendieta with a right hand to the side of the head. Mendieta walks into a jab. Mendieta misses with an uppercut. Thomas saw that one coming. Thomas fails to land with a series of punches.
Mendieta tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Thomas paws at him with a jab and circles away. Thomas swats away the attempt to clinch by Mendieta. Thomas scores with a jab to the body. Thomas lands a head shot. The sound of bone on bone echoes around the arena as Thomas checks a leg kick. Mendieta gets his head snapped back by a nice shot there. Thomas scores with a hook to the body. Mendieta takes a step back and tries to catch his breath. The fighters circle momentarily. Thomas darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch. Mendieta throws a right and a left that both miss. Mendieta throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land. Thomas scores with a hook to the body. Mendieta takes a step back and tries to catch his breath. Thomas connects with the punch. Thomas connects with a lovely jab that went straight through the gap between Mendieta's hands. Mendieta takes one on the chin but keeps coming.
Thomas throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Mendieta's waist but Mendieta gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Thomas off to one side. Mendieta lands with a thumping leg kick.
Thomas cracks Mendieta with a good shot that sees him stumbling back into the cage. Thomas connects with a crisp jab. Mendieta tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Thomas paws at him with a jab and circles away. Mendieta will need to close the distance a bit before he attacks - that leg kick was thrown from too far away.
Thomas looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Thomas sitting and controlling from the half guard. Thomas tries to pass to full mount but Mendieta defends it. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Thomas working to pass to mount. He's got his hand pressing down on Mendieta's thigh. Mendieta counters though and makes it back to full guard. Thomas trying to control but Mendieta is working from the bottom.
That's two minutes gone in the round. My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer. Thomas drops back for a leg here. A bit of a high risk move... He's looking for a kneebar by the looks of things. Now both of them are looking for submissions. Thomas seems to have locked his on tight now - Mendieta screams in pain and taps out furiously! It certainly was a high risk move but it's paid off for Thomas, as he picks up the win!
