PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Badr Hari (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Dana White (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Badr Hari!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Dana White!
The judges for this bout are Vladimir Khabensky, Ivan Kurochkin and Konstantin Menshow.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

White drives through and clinches with Hari against the cage.
A real battle for position is taking place between these two warriors.
Hari keeps control of White as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.
White avoiding damage as Hari throws knees to the body.

White gets a trip takedown into half guard.
Hari wants to get back to his feet.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with White in particular looking to stall.
White thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.

White is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.

That's one minute gone in the round.
White keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action.
White tries to pass to full mount but Hari defends it.
White throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
White slows the pace down in half guard.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.
White missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

White decides to stand and escape the position.
Hari showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from White.
White misses with a series of wild punches.
Hari clinches but White breaks the clinch

and White moves into the clinch.
With the fighters up against the cage, Hari throws an elbow but misses.
Hari tries to stall but White uses the opportunity to gain a better position.
Hari with a knee to the head.
Hari misses the knee to the body. Nice hip positioning from White.
Hari tries to land a knee to the body but he is off balance and White avoids it.
Hari looking to stall.

White breaks from the clinch.
White closes the distance and clinches up with Hari, looking for a takedown. White pushes Hari against the cage but Hari circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
White defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Hari.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Hari throws a head kick that misses.
Hari tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but White paws at him with a jab and circles away.

and White counters into the clinch. Nicely done.

White has moved round to his opponent's back and is looking for a suplex! Oh snap! He's tossed Hari clear over his head and slammed him to the mat!
White controls the position.
White has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
White lands strikes to the head.

White is controlling his opponent, waiting for an opportunity to finish.

White is looking to finish the fight by rear naked choke. Hari knows exactly what he's got planned though, so he's defending well. Maybe a few strikes would soften Hari for a finish.
White punches the canvas rather than the man.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Dana White dominated that round.
That's time! Back to the action!


White goes for a high kick. It partially lands.


It looks like Badr Hari has been cut.
White cracks Hari with a hook to the jaw. Both fighters smile at eachother and high-five before getting back down to business.
Hari clinches but White breaks the clinch

and White counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by White.
White wants to get back to striking at distance but Hari won't allow it.
White is trying to break free.
Hari tries to land a knee to the head but White blocks with his arms.
White is looking to break free of the clinch but Hari has double underhooks.
White is trying to break the clinch but Hari is controlling him.
White lands with a good tight uppercut to the head.
White has had enough of the clinch but Hari keeps him there for the moment.
Hari fails to pull the fight into his guard.
Hari tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Hari throws a vicious knee straight up the middle but White blocks it with crossed arms.
Hari tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. White smiles and moves away.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Badr Hari. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Hari tries to clinch but fails miserably
and White counters with a kick to the head that grazes his opponent. Hari is lucky that one didn't land flush.

and White counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Hari's guard now.

Hari preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.

White thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
White slips nicely into half guard.

White looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

White escapes and gets back to his feet.
White takes a kick to the side of the head.

White rushes Hari and presses him up against the cage.
Hari stalling in the clinch but White improves position.
Hari with a knee to the head.
White avoiding damage as Hari throws knees to the body.
A short body shot lands from White as the two fighters clinch.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Hari misses the knee to the body. Nice hip positioning from White.

White tightens his grip and picks Hari up, before dumping him to the ground. Hari manages to land in guard.
White trying to control the position from guard on top but Hari is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
White postures up in Hari's guard and throws a big left but Hari blocks it.

White stands and steps away. Hari gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.

White has Hari up against the cage in a clinch.

Hari keeps control of White as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.

Hari with the Thai clinch, lands a knee to the head.
White goes for a takedown in the clinch but Hari prevents it.
White is breathing heavily.
White on the defensive, avoiding the knees to the body.

White ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. White no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.
White bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Hari's guard.
White throws a big right hand that misses.
White slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
White happy to just control the position for now.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Hari is trying to work for a sweep but White has mounted him!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Dana White showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The cut man is working on Badr Hari's cut.
That's time! Hari's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!


Hari tries to close the distance and clinch but White swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Hari is looking to clinch.
Hari tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
White shoots in but no luck this time.
White displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Hari.
White misses with a body kick.
White misses the shot to the body.
White leaves Hari with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Hari wants to clinch.
Badr Hari seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
White pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way.
White keeps the fight on the outside.
Hari wants to clinch up but White keeps it at a distance.

Excellent takedown into side control there by White.
White takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

White decides to stand back up.
Hari doesn't manage to clinch there - White circles away.
Hari tries to clinch but White moves out of range.
Hari tries to close the distance and clinch up but White swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Hari takes a head kick and keeps coming.
White fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Hari is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Hari fails in his attempt to clinch.
Hari tries a head kick but it misses.
Hari throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

White rushes Hari and presses him up against the cage.
Hari is trying to slow down the pace in the clinch, to catch his breath.
White is trying to force a seperation but Hari has the dominant position.

White has picked Hari up - he's going for a ride! White dumps his opponent to the mat with a thud and settles into half guard.
Hari knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for White on the ground.
White throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
Dana White has got the better of the ground game so far.
Hari is looking to get back to is feet but White passes into side control.
White in side control, trying to ground and pound but not landing this time.

White looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.
White creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Hari sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Hari is letting White control him for a moment.
The ground and pound from White seems to be hitting the mat more than his opponent.

White stands up and beckons Hari to his feet.

White shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than White was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
White sends his fist crashing into the mat - the crowd let out a collective ooooooh. Let's hope he's not broken it!

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Hari is desperately trying to get back to half guard.

Hari wants to control but White is having none of it.

And that's the end of the fight!
Dana White comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well White has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
