Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
6 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Aaron Rai! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
9 - 11 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Glen Growes! The judges for this bout are William Peck, Trevor Gratis and Robert Douchet.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Rai thuds his right hand into Growes's forehead from close range. That could be painful for both fighters. Growes fails in his attempt to clinch. Rai misses with a low kick.

Rai takes a shot right to the bread basket. Growes tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion. Growes is looking to clinch but Rai is avoiding it.
A jab from Rai misses. Rai avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Growes lands with a head kick! That's gotta hurt. Growes dips to his left and cracks Rai with an uppercut! Growes pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Nice defenses there by Rai. Growes tries to clinch but Rai moves out of range. Growes takes a jab right on the kisser.
Rai swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
That's one minute gone in the round. Growes throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Rai throws a leg kick but Growes sees it coming and checks it nicely. Growes tries to clinch up and Rai decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Growes's guard. Rai wants to pass the guard but Growes is keeping the position. A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Rai accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand. Rai in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time. Growes is looking to stand up but Rai isn't so interested in that idea. Rai is working Growes over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes. Rai thows a big elbow that misses.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Rai throwing strikes from guard but Growes blocks nicely. Rai pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Growes is keeping the position for now. Growes preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage. Growes is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two. Rai postures up in Growes's guard and throws a big left but Growes blocks it. Growes wants to get back to his feet but he's too absorbed in his own little project and Rai manages to pass to side control. Rai not landing any meaningful shots this time. Rai thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Growes's head. Rai slips a nice elbow through Growes's hands, connecting with Growes's forehead. Rai working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that. Rai is looking to take a break and control but Growes is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Rai is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Rai working to pass to mount. He's got his hand pressing down on Growes's thigh. Growes counters though and makes it back to full guard. Growes striking off his back but it's not causing Rai any problems. Rai has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player. Rai won't allow Growes to sweep him here. Growes is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Rai is controlling him. Rai missing there with some ground and pound from the guard. Rai wants to pass the guard but Growes is keeping the position. Rai content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots. Rai lands a couple of digs. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Growes working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Rai. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Rai trying to control the position from guard on top but Growes is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
That's four minutes gone in the round. There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action. Rai throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Growes works some decent striking defense from the bottom. Rai with a flurry of punches that miss. Rai missing there with some ground and pound from the guard. Rai throws and elbow that misses. Growes uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Rai's guard. Nice move by Growes! Growes is looking to work some ground and pound but Rai has wrist control. Growes has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Rai is proving hard to escape from. Rai looking to sweep here. No luck so far. Growes looking to pass the guard. Growes postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head. Rai looking to hit a scissor sweep but Growes is one step ahead there. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Growes wants to clinch. A punch combination from Rai misses. Growes displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Rai throws out the jab. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Growes tries to clinch and Rai counters with a single leg into guard. Growes didn't expect that. Growes wants to stand up but Rai is controlling him. Growes tries to land a sweep but no joy. Rai throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Growes works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
That's one minute gone in the round. Growes looking to hit a scissor sweep but Rai is one step ahead there. Growes utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound. Rai working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage. Rai with a flurry of punches that miss. Rai is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound. Rai works a leg free and moves into half guard. Rai stops Growes from getting back to his feet.
Rai landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent. Growes pushes Rai off looking to stand but Rai dives back in and keeps control.
Growes is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though. Rai missing with the ground and pound from half guard. Rai seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Rai works his way into side control. Rai wants to lay and pray for a moment but Growes keeps working. Growes takes a nasty elbow to the side of the head. Rai throws a knee to the body but it doesn't do much damage. Growes avoids any damage from the ground and pound of Rai. An elbow from Rai crashes against the mat.
Rai lands a decent elbow from side control. Rai throws a knee to the body but it doesn't do much damage. Rai fails to land a wild elbow strike.
Rai is working Growes over with some ground and pound from side control. Rai scores with a couple of nice shots to the head there. The referee takes a look at Growes to see if he's OK.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Rai looks up at the clock and then as Growes takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Rai smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!

Rai prevents Growes from escaping the position. Rai sitting in side control, looking to soften his opponent up with elbows and hammerfists but Growes is avoiding damage well and looking to escape the position.
Rai cracks Growes with an elbow. That is naaassty. Rai trying to control the position but Growes is working away. Rai lands a knee to the body and a forearm to the face. Rai cracks Growes with a big elbow. Rai landing with strikes to the head and body from side control. Rai cracks Growes with a big elbow.
Growes is rocked! Growes taking a bit of punishment here - Rai scoring with strikes. Growes is still in real trouble! Can Rai finish him? A big shot lands for Rai! That's hurt Growes! Will he recover? Rai fires away with more strikes and the referee has to step in to stop the fight!
