0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Damian Valic! The judges for this bout are Ian Loll, Gregory Folan and Yves DeLean.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Valic is trying hard to land a takedown here. Szpaczynski sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet. Valic shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Szpaczynski napping and manages to drive through into side control! Valic remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while. Szpaczynski is looking to reverse the position. Szpaczynski manages to get back to half guard. Szpaczynski controlling the position well. Valic is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there. Szpaczynski avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Valic. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
That's one minute gone in the round. Valic stands up from half guard. Valic shoots in but Szpaczynski avoids the takedown attempt easily. Valic shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Szpaczynski is trying to defend but Valic finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further. Valic sitting and controlling from the half guard. Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up. Valic rushes Szpaczynski and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch. Valic passes the guard and advances to mount! Valic with good strikes from the mount here! Valic stands up from mount. Strange move. Valic lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Szpaczynski circles away quickly and effectively. Valic circles away from the clinch attempt.
A nice combination there by Valic.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Valic throws a series of punches but Szpaczynski avoids them all with ease. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Valic. Szpaczynski is trying to escape the position but Valic is controlling the position. Valic wants to control for a moment but Szpaczynski uses the opportunity to move back to half guard. Valic wants to control but Szpaczynski is keeping him busy. Szpaczynski is controlling Valic's trapped leg to prevent Valic from advancing to side control. Valic is thwarting Szpaczynski's attempts to control the position. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. Valic is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Szpaczynski is just riding it out for now. Valic eventually gives up the hold.

That's three minutes gone in the round. Valic avoids the attempt from Szpaczynski to control. Valic manages to capitalize on a mistake by Szpaczynski to take his back! Valic working for a choke but Szpaczynski is defending well. Valic biding his time, controlling Szpaczynski.
That's four minutes gone in the round. A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace. Szpaczynski just trying to survive but Valic is wriggling into a better position, looking to finish. Valic is landing with strikes from the back. Szpaczynski trying to control the hands but Valic won't let him. I would not like to be Szpaczynski right now.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Szpaczynski tries to roll but Valic sticks to his back.

Damian Valic showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards. The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!

That's two minutes gone in the round. There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action. Valic misses with a body kick. Valic gets the takedown into side control. Valic in side control, throwing shots but Szpaczynski defends. Valic thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead. Valic trying to control the action but Szpaczynski is working from the bottom.

Valic trying to control but Szpaczynski is having none of it. Valic lands with some strikes. Valic controlling from the full mount. Szpaczynski keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
And that's the end of the fight! Damian Valic comfortably won the final round on my scorecard. Well Valic has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
