PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Anton Egorov (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Vitor Belfort (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Belfort comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Things just arent the same kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! On his way into the cage it seems that Anton Egorov has been attacked by a crazed fan! It looks like it might have been the just bleed guy! Luckily Anton Egorov seems to be OK! I thought that lunatic was in prison!?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 9 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Anton Egorov!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 13 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Vitor Belfort!
The judges for this bout are George Francis, Daniel Franklin and Cecil Peabody.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Egorov bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
Egorov throws a body punch but Belfort moves out of range.
Belfort looking to take his opponent's legs away with the low kicks.
Belfort fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Egorov manages to avoid it.
Belfort tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Belfort attempts a low kick but it misses it's target.
Egorov cracks Belfort with a hook to the jaw. Both fighters smile at eachother and high-five before getting back down to business.
Ouch! a nice leg kick from Egorov, right into the meat.
Belfort lands a head shot.
Belfort tries a low kick but Egorov avoids it.
Belfort thows a leg kick but Egorov checks it
and Egorov counters with a solid body kick.
Egorov misses with a wild body shot.
Belfort misses with a hook. Egorov ducked under it nicely.
Belfort feints and then cracks Egorov's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Egorov down.
Egorov takes a hook to the side of the head. I wonder if that's got his ears ringing.

and Belfort counters with a right hand to the body.
Belfort misses with a leg kick
and Egorov counters with a leg kick that reverborates around the arena.
Belfort slips under a jab from Egorov.
Belfort lands with a slapping head kick.
Egorov misses with a body shot.
An inside leg kick lands from Belfort.
Egorov tries a head kick but it misses.
Belfort jabbing away but nothing is landing.
Vitor Belfort seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Egorov throws a quick inside leg kick.
Belfort pushing out the jab but it's not landing.
Egorov throws a lazy head kick
and Belfort counters with a left to the body.
Egorov scores with a kick to the body.

and Egorov counters with a head kick. That will keep Belfort thinking before he tries any more sloppy attacks!
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Belfort moves into range and lands a nice body kick.
Egorov moves out of range as Belfort strikes.
Belfort just misses with a punch to the body.
A slapping leg kick lands for Belfort.

and Egorov counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Belfort!
Egorov is looking to work his way around to Belfort's back. He needs to be careful though, as he's in danger of losing this dominant position.

Belfort defends a decent attempt at a guillotine from Egorov.

Egorov looking to secure an arm triangle but Belfort defends it well.

Belfort is squirming around, avoiding Egorov's attempts to control the action.
Egorov with some aggressive grappling here, looking for the finish.

Egorov is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, Belfort has managed to escape the submission attempt.
Belfort really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Egorov. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Belfort regains half guard.
Egorov is pressing down on Belfort's thigh, looking to free his foot. Belfort is holding on for now.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's time! Egorov's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


A looping hook to the body misses from Belfort. Egorov does a little dance to reset his feet.
Anton Egorov is winning the standup battle so far.
Egorov walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush.
Egorov pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Belfort lands a jab.
The crowd cheers as Belfort lands an impressive looking overhand right. Egorov doesn't seem phased though.
Egorov finds nothing but air with that leg kick attempt.

The fighters circling - Egorov throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
A slow jab from Belfort misses its intended target.

and Belfort connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.

and Egorov counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Egorov shoots in looking for a takedown but Belfort manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Egorov's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
A low kick from Belfort is predictable there
and Egorov counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
Belfort connects with a leg kick. He turned his hip over nicely there.
Belfort misses with a combination
and Egorov counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt.
Egorov looks to land a right hand but Belfort moved out of range.
Egorov fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Belfort tests Egorov's chin there with a solid looking shot.
Belfort lands a powerful looking uppercut that connected with his opponent's jaw.
Good exchange - Egorov coming out on top.

Belfort is looking to chop away at Egorov's legs.
Belfort misses with a body shot
and Egorov counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Egorov misses with the combination.

Egorov looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.

Belfort has one foot on Egorov's thigh - he pushes off and manages to get back to his feet.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Egorov uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Belfort.
Egorov misses with an uppercut. Belfort saw that one coming.
Egorov takes a jab on the nose there. A little bit of blood seems to be coming out. Hopefully that won't affect his breathing.

Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Egorov.
A nice inside leg kick there by Egorov. That's going to slow Belfort down.
Belfort throws a sloppy head kick and Egorov moves out of range easily.
Egorov tries a head kick but it misses.
Belfort lands a jab to the nose.

and Egorov counters with a nice double leg into side control. Belfort won't be happy with that.
Egorov tries to advance to mount but can't.

Egorov is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Belfort knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Egorov tries to move into full mount but can't pass Belfort's legs.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Egorov is working hard here to advance position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Anton Egorov will probably get the nod.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!

The crowd cheers as Belfort lands an impressive looking overhand right. Egorov doesn't seem phased though.


It looks like Anton Egorov has been cut.

and Egorov counters with a flying knee. Nice.
Sloppy strikes from Belfort. Those never looked like landing.
Belfort throws a looping overhand right but Egorov ducks down to avoid it.

and Egorov counters with a nice double leg into guard.
Egorov tries to free his leg and advance position but Belfort is retaining full guard.

Egorov drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Belfort manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Egorov has Belfort in his guard.
Belfort would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
Vitor Belfort has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Egorov looking for a sweep. Not yet Egorov, not yet.
Belfort is looking to stand up but Egorov won't let him.
Egorov is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Egorov is working for a kimura but Belfort is defending it quite comfortably.
Egorov wants to free his trapped foot but Belfort is holding on for dear life with his legs.

Belfort is positioning himself well to prevent Egorov advancing to mount.
Egorov works his way into full mount!

Egorov working for a submission but Belfort is keeping him at bay.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Egorov jumps to the side looking to secure the arm triangle…. Ooooh, that looks tight… Belfort is gargling but he's managed to escape! Nice work there by Belfort and Egorov has given up the dominant position trying to land that submission.
Anton Egorov is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Egorov trying to control the action but Belfort is working from the bottom.

Egorov is trying to get an arm triangle but Belfort is defending well.

Anton Egorov showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Egorov, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
