The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Vasuta fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Mendez avoids it really well and circles away.

The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Mendez connects with a nice short shot to Vasuta's temple.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Mendez lands a nice short elbow.
Vasuta is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Mendez scores with a couple of nice shots.
Mendez is nestled in close to Vasuta, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.

Vasuta working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Mendez doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Mendez manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Mendez really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Vasuta. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Mendez keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Vasuta's head.
