PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Randall Swain (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Tony Gordon (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Swain kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is Lunatic Fringe. Tony Gordon told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 8 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Randall Swain!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 12 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Tony Gordon!
The judges for this bout are Luis Engracia, Thiago Cunha and Paulo Santos.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Gordon misses with a two punch combination.
Swain fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Gordon manages to avoid it.
Gordon throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Gordon swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.

Gordon closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Swain changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Gordon fights it off and pushes away nicely.
Swain dodges the punch combination from Gordon.
Swain works over Gordon's head and body with a nice combination.
Thud! ouch! good body kick from Gordon - that will leave a mark!
Gordon misses with a few strikes there.

Swain throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Gordon was covering up waiting for the punch and Swain finishes the takedown easily into guard.
Swain lands a couple of decent looking shots.

Swain in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Swain loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Swain throws a big right hand that misses.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Gordon can do anything to dispel that myth.
Swain trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Swain won't allow Gordon to get back to his feet.
Swain wants to control from the top but Gordon keeps moving.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Swain works a leg free and moves into half guard.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Swain not landing any meaningful shots this time.
Swain works his way into side control.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Swain cracks Gordon with a big elbow.
Gordon is positioning himself to get back to half guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Gordon is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
Swain has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Swain throws an elbow but Gordon slips to the side and avoids it well.
Swain is working Gordon over with some ground and pound from side control.

Swain is working to tighten is grip on Gordon's neck. He's isolated an arm and is working for an arm triangle. Gordon has recognised the danger and is trying to turn with the submission but Swain is really squeezing tight and eventually Gordon passes out! Swain breaks the hold and jumps onto the cage to celebrate! Submission of the night, I'd say!
