PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Pepper Saltsman (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jose Batungbakal (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Rumors backstage are that the fighters have been paid to keep it standing but we know that would never happen in MMA!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Pepper Saltsman!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Jose Batungbakal!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Batungbakal throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Saltsman looks exhausted already! Oh dear, he should have come in in better shape than this!
Saltsman slaps away a takedown attempt from Batungbakal, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Saltsman leaves Batungbakal with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Batungbakal misses with a body kick.
Batungbakal keeps the fight on the outside.
A head kick misses from Batungbakal.
Batungbakal dives in and grabs Saltsman's left leg, looking for a takedown. Saltsman pushes down on Batungbakal's head and hops out.
Pepper Saltsman has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jose Batungbakal.
Batungbakal swats away the attempt to clinch by Saltsman.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Saltsman swings away with a leg kick that misses.
Batungbakal looks for a takedown but Saltsman sprawls well.

Batungbakal throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Saltsman was covering up waiting for the punch and Batungbakal finishes the takedown easily into guard.
Saltsman wants to get back to his feet but Batungbakal is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Saltsman has momentary wrist control but Batungbakal slips an elbow through the middle.

Batungbakal drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Batungbakal jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Batungbakal throwing strikes from guard but Saltsman blocks nicely.

Batungbakal is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

Batungbakal thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Batungbakal is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.

Batungbakal drops back looking for a leg! Saltsman is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Saltsman manages to kick Batungbakal off! Batungbakal jumps back into Saltsman's guard.
Batungbakal is in close to Saltsman's body, working some short punches and elbows.
Batungbakal controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Batungbakal gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Saltsman enables Batungbakal to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Saltsman manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Batungbakal is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Saltsman utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Batungbakal postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Batungbakal decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.

Batungbakal fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Batungbakal throws a leg kick
and Saltsman counters with a series of strikes. Batungbakal will be more careful next time no doubt.
Saltsman avoids a kick to the body.
Saltsman stuffs the takedown attempt from Batungbakal. Batungbakal gets slowly back to his feet.
Batungbakal tries for a takedown but Saltsman sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Saltsman's corner calls for a 1,2 combination and Saltsman duly obliges.
Saltsman stuffs the takedown.
Saltsman looking to take his opponent's legs away with the low kicks.
Danga de danga de dang - Saltsman scores with a four punch combination!

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

Batungbakal changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Saltsman looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Batungbakal trying to control the position but Saltsman is working away.
Saltsman is working to avoid the ground and pound but Batungbakal connects with a decent elbow.

Batungbakal decides to take the fight back to the feet.
Jose Batungbakal seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Saltsman will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Batungbakal tries for a takedown but Saltsman sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.

The fighters are starting to get sweaty, which will make takedowns a bit more tricky.
Batungbakal is looking to clinch but Saltsman is avoiding it.
Pepper Saltsman is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Batungbakal doesn't succeed with the takedown
and he gets countered with a snapping leg kick.

Batungbakal is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Saltsman's half guard.

Batungbakal looks to score some points with some ground and pound.
Batungbakal thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.

Batungbakal maintaining the dominant position here and is working for a kimura. He's locked it up! Saltsman could be in real trouble here! He's trying to wriggle out but Batungbakal has cracked it and Saltsman is screaming in pain - he's tapped out! Great finish by Batungbakal!
