Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Ygor Sagonov (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Colt Steel (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Ygor Sagonov could well score a knockout today. He has the power to get to Colt Steel's chin.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Ygor Sagonov!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Colt Steel!
The judges for this bout are Yves DeLean, William Peck and Ian Loll.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Steel feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Steel preventing the sweep.
Steel wants to control from the top but Sagonov keeps moving.
Sagonov avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Steel trying to control the position from guard on top but Sagonov is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Steel postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.

Sagonov wants to sweep but no luck.

We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Steel looks to land a combination but Sagonov avoids it well.

Sagonov shoots in and bounces Steel off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Steel not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Steel is looking to stand up but Sagonov isn't so interested in that idea.
Sagonov wants to control from the top but Steel keeps moving.
Sagonov is really struggling to control Steel but he's trying to hold on to the position.
Sagonov won't allow Steel to sweep him here.

The ref stands the fighters back up because Ygor Sagonov just wasn't active enough.

and Steel counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.

Sagonov has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Steel can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Steel postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Sagonov is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Steel, into his guard.
Sagonov is working Steel over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.

Steel controls Sagonov momentarily but Sagonov frees himself.
Sagonov sitting in guard, not really doing much.
Sagonov trying to control the position from guard on top but Steel is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Sagonov sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Steel's guard.

Sagonov is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Steel really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Sagonov. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Steel looks like he's trying to stand up.
Steel has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Sagonov is working away from the top position though.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Steel can do anything to dispel that myth.
Steel looks gassed!
Sagonov tries to pass the half guard into mount. Steel knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
Steel is looking for a sweep. Sagonov is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Colt Steel will probably get the nod.
The cut man is working on Ygor Sagonov's cut.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Sagonov pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way.
Sagonov shoots and misses

and Steel counters with a nice double leg into guard.
Steel wants to control from the top but Sagonov keeps moving.

Steel drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Sagonov dives on top into guard.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Sagonov accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Sagonov gets to his feet. Steel looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!
Steel shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

and Sagonov counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Sagonov works his way into full mount!

Sagonov lands a big elbow.
Steel has given up his back here.
Sagonov has good solid back control here.
Sagonov is working the ground and pound. Can Steel escape?
Ygor Sagonov overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Steel is very frustrated here, being controlled quite effectively by Sagonov.
Steel has the hand control, trying to stop the rear naked choke.

Sagonov is riding his opponent, not letting Steel buck him off.

Steel is covering up but some of the strikes from Sagonov are getting through and doing damage.
Steel wants to escape the position but for the time being he's just trying to control the pace.
Will Sagonov go for the finish here or will he try and keep control of the position?

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Sagonov is landing with strikes from the back.
Sagonov lands a couple of good shots to his opponent's body and a final shot to the head. Good little attack there by Sagonov.
Sagonov trying desperately to keep hold of the dominant position.
So, who will make the next big move? In this position it could be crucial.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Sagonov shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Steel counters with a big head kick but Sagonov shrugs it off.
Steel throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Sagonov's waist but Sagonov gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Steel off to one side.

and Sagonov counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.

Sagonov is taking a breather. Steel says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
Steel on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Sagonov perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.

Sagonov maintaining the dominant position here and is working for a kimura. He's locked it up! Steel could be in real trouble here! He's trying to wriggle out but Sagonov has cracked it and Steel is screaming in pain - he's tapped out! Great finish by Sagonov!
