PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Jayson Sariol (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Zen Silva (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Sariol comes to the cage accompanied by eye of the tiger. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Jayson Sariol!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Zen Silva!
The judges for this bout are Alyssa Summers, Eddie Farnsworth and Jorge Garcia.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Silva shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Sariol defends it nicely.

Sariol clinches up against the cage.
Sariol keeps control of Silva as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.
Silva drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.

Sariol jumps guard.
Sariol is trying to control the position but Silva postures up.
Silva being controlled here momentarily.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Silva wanted to stand there but Sariol had control of the position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Jayson Sariol wasn't doing enough on the ground.

Sariol gets the takedown into side control.
Silva tries to bench press Sariol off him but Sariol keeps the position.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Silva really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Sariol. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Sariol is looking to take a break and control but Silva is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Sariol lands a knee to the body and a forearm to the face.

Sariol stands up and we're back to a striking position.

Sariol feints and as Silva raises his hands in defense, Sariol changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Sariol pushes down on Silva's leg and manages to get into half guard.

Sariol passes into side control, despite Silva's attempt to control the position.
Sariol cracks Silva with a big right hand but Silva just smiles back at him and invites him to have another go.

Sariol stands up and we're back to a striking position.

Sariol feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Sariol stands up and waves to Silva to follow him.

Silva walks forward, straight into a front kick from Sariol.
Sariol shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Silva as he jumps to the side.

and Sariol counters with a lovely straight right hand!
Jayson Sariol has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Zen Silva.

and Sariol counters with a takedown into side control.
A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.

The referee asks Sariol politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. Sariol prefers to stall for the moment though.

Sariol lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning.

Silva is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.

Silva wants to hold on but Sariol pushes him away.
Sariol lands a nice shot to the head.
Silva takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position.
This has been an exciting period of action!
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!



Sariol shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Silva is trying to defend but Sariol finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
Silva is trying to control but can't.
Sariol seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.

Sariol decides to stand up and try his luck on the feet.

Sariol shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Silva napping and manages to drive through into side control!
Sariol takes a little break here. Silva wants to take advantage but he is being controlled well.

Sariol stands up and beckons Silva to his feet.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Sariol tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.

Silva shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Sariol napping and manages to drive through into side control!

Jayson Sariol overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Sariol decides to take the fight back to the feet.
Sariol looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.

and Sariol counters with a nice double leg into side control. Silva won't be happy with that.
Sariol cracks Silva with a big right hand but Silva just smiles back at him and invites him to have another go.
Sariol cracks Silva with an elbow. That is naaassty.

Sariol stands up.

Sariol closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Silva to the mat! Silva manages to get full guard.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Sariol slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
Silva is trying to control the position from the bottom.

Silva is pulling down on Sariol's head to control his posture.
Sariol throwing strikes from guard but Silva blocks nicely.

We're going to have a standup here because Jayson Sariol wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.
Sariol fakes a head shot and lands one to the body.
Horrible takedown by Sariol or perhaps it was just good defense by Silva which made him look bad.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jayson Sariol. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Silva shoots for a takedown but Sariol saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Sariol closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Silva did well to prevent Sariol getting side control.

Sariol postures up and decides to stand up, from the half guard. The ref calls for Silva to stand up.

so Sariol counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Sariol stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Sariol wants it to stay on the feet.

Sariol stands up over Silva, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.

Sariol escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

Sariol clinches up with Silva and pushes him back against the cage.
Silva jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Sariol walks away with a smile on his face. Silva gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.

Sariol scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.

Sariol is giving the impression that he's looking to ground and pound but he switches suddenly into a beautiful far side armbar! Silva is forced to tap! Great finish!
