Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of London, Steven Elchert! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of London, Maimuta Prunea! The judges for this bout are Chris Edwards, Paul Tew and Andrew Berry.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Prunea looks for a takedown but Elchert sprawls well. Prunea feints and as Elchert raises his hands in defense, Prunea changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard. Elchert trying to control the position here. Prunea tries to free his leg and advance position but Elchert is retaining full guard. Prunea with a nice head shot there.
That's one minute gone in the round. Prunea wants to control from the top but Elchert keeps moving. Prunea working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage. Prunea wants to control from the top but Elchert keeps moving. Elchert wants to sweep but no luck.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it. Prunea trying to control but Elchert is working from the bottom. Elchert looking to hit a scissor sweep but Prunea is one step ahead there.
The ref stands the fighters back up. Maimuta Prunea was stalling too much, according to the referee. Prunea doesn't manage to clinch there - Elchert circles away.
Prunea shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away. Prunea wants to control the pace but Elchert is squirming around nicely.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Elchert is trying to escape the mount.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Prunea controlling his opponent. Prunea thowing shots but they're missing.
That's four minutes gone in the round. My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer. Elchert is in a horrible position here. Prunea smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.
Prunea trying to control but Elchert is having none of it. Prunea might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Elchert kaven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Maimuta Prunea dominated that round. That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.
Prunea has taken the fight to the clinch.
Prunea pulls guard. Elchertis looking to pass into half guard but Prunea pushes him away with his feet and jumps on top - now Prunea is in guard. Prunea stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Elchert swivels though and keeps the full guard. Elchert preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Prunea has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Elchert is proving hard to escape from. Elchert controls Prunea momentarily but Prunea frees himself.
That's one minute gone in the round. Prunea tries to stand but Elchert is controlling from the bottom. Elchert keeping full guard, as Prunea tries to pass. Elchert is trying to hold Prunea in close to prevent damage but Prunea has managed to pass into half guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena. Elchert wants to get back to full guard. Prunea is trying to control the action in half guard but Elchert is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard. Prunea with the ground and pound but Elchert uses the opportunity to regain guard. Elchert has control of Prunea's left arm, preventing Prunea from doing any damage. Elchert looking for a sweep. Not yet Elchert, not yet.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Prunea trying to control the position from guard on top but Elchert is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup. Elchert is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent. Prunea decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. Prunea gets a takedown into half guard. Elchert on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Elchert tries to get out of the position.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Prunea wants to lay and pray for a moment but Elchert keeps working. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Prunea thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas. Elchert is not content to let Prunea control the position. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Maimuta Prunea showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards. That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!
Prunea clinches up with Elchert and pushes him back against the cage. Prunea has Elchert pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Prunea pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Elchert tumbling to the mat - Prunea dives into Elchert's guard. Prunea trying to control the position from guard on top but Elchert is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Prunea throws a big right hand that misses.
That's one minute gone in the round. Elchert keeping moving, preventing Prunea from controlling successfully. Prunea working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage. Prunea trying to control the position from guard on top but Elchert is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Maimuta Prunea. A telegraphed takedown attempt from Prunea is defended easily by Elchert. Steven Elchert has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
That's two minutes gone in the round. Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it. Elchert gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily and Prunea decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Elchert's guard. Both fighters are breathing heavily. Prunea stands and throws Elchert's legs to the side, diving into side control. Prunea misses with an attempted head punch from side control. Prunea taking a breather here.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Elchert can't do much from the bottom here.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless. Prunea controls the position. Prunea trying to control the position but Elchert is working away. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet. Prunea tries to get to his feet but he's trapped momentarily.
The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Maimuta Prunea wasn't active enough on the ground. Prunea has taken the fight to the clinch.
And that's the end of the fight! Maimuta Prunea comfortably won the final round on my scorecard. I've got Prunea winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
