Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of
1 - 6 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Ivan Drago!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of
0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Alexander Karpushev!
The judges for this bout are Dmitry Maklakov, Sergei Dronov and Illya Tyunina.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Drago has closed the distance and engaged Karpushev in a clinch.
Karpushev is trying to wear down his opponent with knees to the body.
Karpushev has Drago pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Drago manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.
Drago lands with a right to the head.
Karpushev is trying to trip Drago. He has hold of a leg but Drago is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. Karpushev persists though and gets the takedown into guard.
Karpushev wants to control from the top but Drago keeps moving.
Karpushev stops Drago from standing up.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Karpushev advances to half guard.
Karpushev throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
Drago on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound.
That's one minute gone in the round.
Karpushev seems to be working for a kimura but Drago defends the submission attempt.
Drago is trying to control but Karpushev manages to pass to mount!
Drago tries to control Karpushev's body but Karpushev pushes him off. Drago squirms to his side and now Karpushev has his back!
Karpushev misses with a punch to the head.
That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Drago defends a prolonged rear naked choke attempt and turns nicely into his opponent's guard.
Drago wants to control from the top but Karpushev keeps moving.
Karpushev has thrown up a leg looking for a triangle. Drago doesn't defend quickly enough and Karpushev has managed to lock this one up! Can Drago escape?! NO! He's tapping out! Damn, that was a quick submission - congrats to Karpushev on a fantastic submission victory.
