Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, FRANK KIRJONEN!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Bionic Hawk!
The judges for this bout are Hugh Johnson, Damien Edna and Eliza Hachem.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
KIRJONEN stuffs the takedown.

Hawk shoots in and bounces KIRJONEN off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.

KIRJONEN has butterfly guard. He's looking to stand up here. He pushes Hawk off him and springs to his feet nicely. The crowd applauds.
KIRJONEN avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Hawk throws a right and a left that KIRJONEN avoids nicely.

KIRJONEN shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Hawk is trying to defend but KIRJONEN finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
KIRJONEN is keen to just control but Hawk is a slippery customer.
KIRJONEN trying to advance position but Hawk counters by regaining guard.

KIRJONEN gets to his feet. Hawk looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!
KIRJONEN circles away from the clinch attempt.
Hawk tries to clinch but KIRJONEN is having none of it.
Hawk looks for the body kick but KIRJONEN saw that one coming.
KIRJONEN doesn't succeed with the takedown

and Hawk counters into the clinch. Nicely done.
KIRJONEN doesn't land with the attempted body shot.
KIRJONEN has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Hawk is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.

KIRJONEN manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.
KIRJONEN seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.

KIRJONEN wants to get back to his feet but Hawk is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
KIRJONEN is trying to keep Hawk in close.

We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.
Hawk throws a big right hand that misses.

We're going to have a standup here because FRANK KIRJONEN wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.
Hawk swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Hawk tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.

KIRJONEN shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
Hawk is trying to keep KIRJONEN in close.
KIRJONEN passes Hawk's left leg - he's now in half guard.
KIRJONEN controlling the action here.
Hawk slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.
Hawk looks gassed!
KIRJONEN trying to control the position from guard on top but Hawk is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
KIRJONEN stops Hawk from standing up.

Hawk is using up a lot of energy trying to get back to his feet. Perhaps he should improve his position first.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Hawk is trying to control the position but KIRJONEN postures up.

Hawk is working an open guard so KIRJONEN takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.

KIRJONEN scores a takedown into full mount!

KIRJONEN stands up from the dominant position, so we're back on the feet.
KIRJONEN with a lazy takedown attempt

and Hawk counters with a shoot takedown. KIRJONEN fights it but they end up in guard.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for FRANK KIRJONEN. That's going to take a lot out of him.
This has been an exciting period of action!
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
KIRJONEN is pulling down on Hawk's head to control his posture.

Hawk gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily

and KIRJONEN moves into the clinch.
KIRJONEN tries a knee to the head but he's missed.
KIRJONEN looking for a takedown.

KIRJONEN has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Hawk uses from the top position.
KIRJONEN has a closed guard, preventing Hawk from standing up.
KIRJONEN looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
KIRJONEN looking to sweep using the butterfly guard but Hawk puts pay to that idea as he passes nicely into half guard.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
KIRJONEN works his way to full guard. Good work.
KIRJONEN has Hawk pulled in close to control his posture.

Hawk got a little sloppy there for a moment and KIRJONEN has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Hawk has managed to get both his arms back between KIRJONEN's legs - danger averted.

KIRJONEN pushes Hawk off and gets back to his feet.

and KIRJONEN counters with a takedown into side control.

A head kick by Hawk misses

and KIRJONEN decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Hawk's guard.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Hawk keeping moving, preventing KIRJONEN from controlling successfully.

KIRJONEN is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Hawk is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Hawk has escaped and now he's on top!

KIRJONEN wants to stand up but Hawk is controlling him.

KIRJONEN had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Hawk defends it easily.
KIRJONEN lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Hawk!

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Hawk tries to hold on but KIRJONEN postures up.

KIRJONEN is working close to his opponent, looking to work a submission by the looks of things. Oh, he's managed to get a guillotine from mount as his opponent reached up! That looks tiiiiight! Will he tap? YES, he's tapped! Impressive submission by KIRJONEN!
