PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Cliff Sierra (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ryan Brashears (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Sierra comes to the cage accompanied by Sweet Dreams-Manson. I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Cliff Sierra!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Ryan Brashears!
The judges for this bout are Skip Squint, Winston Howard and Damien Edna.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Sierra scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
Brashears is looking to regain half guard here but Sierra keeps moving and retains side control.
Brashears takes a nasty elbow to the side of the head.
Sierra controls the position from side control.
Brashears misses with an elbow from the bottom.
Sierra working the body and head with strikes.

Sierra tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Sierra has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Brashears is trying to escape and get back to his feet.

Sierra is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Brashears knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
Sierra is maintaining the dominant position - no doubt Brashears will start to get frustrated soon if he's not already.
Brashears is looking to work his way out of this bad position but Sierra is controlling him well.

Brashears is working to avoid the ground and pound but Sierra connects with a decent elbow.
Brashears manages to work his way to half guard, despite Sierra's best efforts.

Brashears wants to get back to full guard.

Sierra thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Brashears's head.
Sierra slows the pace down in half guard.
Sierra is thwarting Brashears's attempts to control the position.
Sierra knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Brashears on the ground.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.

Sierra throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Brashears was covering up waiting for the punch and Sierra finishes the takedown easily into guard.

Brashears wants to get back to his feet but Sierra is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Sierra seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
Sierra wants to control from the top but Brashears keeps moving.
Brashears wants to stand and escape but Sierra is having none of it.
Brashears looks gassed!

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Cliff Sierra.

Sierra throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Brashears tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Sierra is in Brashears's guard.
Sierra lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.
Sierra throws a big right hand that misses.
Sierra looking to control the position here, rather than advance.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Cliff Sierra dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.



Sierra forces Brashears back against the cage and clinches.

Sierra breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

Sierra closes the distance and clinches.
Sierra managing to block the knees to the body from Brashears.

Sierra tightens his grip and picks Brashears up, before dumping him to the ground. Brashears manages to land in guard.

Sierra stands up from guard. Let's bang!

Sierra looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into mount! Oh, that's bad for Brashears!
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Sierra looks like he's working for a submission but he's not found anything just yet.
Brashears is trying desperately to improve position.

Sierra working for a guillotine from mount but Brashears is in no mood to give up.

Sierra landing strikes, looking to finish!
Sierra fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!
Brashears is desperately trying to improve his position but Sierra has a good base and remains in mount.
Brashears is breathing heavily.

Sierra goes for an armbar but he's fallen flat on his backside there and now Brashears is on top in guard.

Sierra is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

Sierra has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Brashears can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Sierra is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Sierra is pulling down on Brashears's head. It's preventing any offense from Brashears, at least for the moment.

Sierra looking for a guillotine here but Brashears defends easily.
Cliff Sierra overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Brashears looking to sit in guard and control but Sierra gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Sierra slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
Sierra wanted to stand there but Brashears had control of the position.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Sierra looking to sit in guard and control but Brashears gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Sierra looking for a sweep. Not yet Sierra, not yet.
Sierra is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Brashears wants to improve his position but Sierra is controlling well.
Sierra is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Cliff Sierra dominated that second round.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!



Brashears gets caught flat footed, as Sierra shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.

Sierra decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Brashears, up you get!

Sierra looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.

Sierra wants to work for an arm triangle but Brashears is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Sierra in particular looking to stall.
Sierra landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent.

Brashears takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Brashears tries to strike from the bottom but it doesn't land.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Sierra is controlling the pace.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

Sierra feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Brashears is active off his back here, looking for submissions.

Brashears has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Sierra can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Sierra stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Brashears swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Sierra gets to his feet. Brashears looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Brashears sees a low kick coming and goes to check it, but it's actually a body kick and it thuds into his unprotected ribs.
Sierra lands with a kick to the temple. Brashears shrugs as if to say "is that all you've got?"


Brashears is rocked!


It looks like Ryan Brashears has been cut.

Sierra lands a huge takedown. Brashears is out but the ref is slow to react and Sierra lands 3 more undefended punches before the fight is stopped. Brutal finish. Brashears lies on the canvas for a good minute before the doctors bring him round. Good to see he's OK.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:19 of round 3, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Cliff Sierra!
