0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Antonio Rezende! The judges for this bout are Paulo Santos, Edson Gomes and Thiago Cunha.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Belfort blocks a head kick by Rezende.
Rezende throws a head kick but Belfort moves out of range.
Belfort avoids the head kick by Rezende.
Antonio Rezende seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Belfort closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage. Belfort avoids a wild elbow strike from Rezende. Rezende looking to throw knees to the head but Belfort is blocking nicely.
Belfort changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Rezende fights it off and pushes away nicely.

Rezende feints with a shoulder and throws a nice leg kick to Belfort's calf. Belfort looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily. Rezende swats away the attempt to clinch by Belfort. Excellent takedown into side control there by Belfort. Belfort trying to control the action but Rezende is working from the bottom.
That's one minute gone in the round. Rezende parries the strikes from Belfort easily there. Belfort is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Rezende to escape.
Rezende is looking to get back to his feet here but Belfort is keeping cool and he's managed to take Rezende's back. Belfort has his opponent trapped and is landing shots. Not a good position for Rezende.
That's two minutes gone in the round. There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action. Rezende trying to survive by controlling the hands. Belfort is trying to control but Rezende is trying to escape here - he's now mounted.

He's tucked his head under his opponent's arm, looking for an arm triangle. He's hopped off into side control, looking to tighten the submission... is it going to work? He's given up a good position looking for it. Rezende looks OK. Oh, I spoke too soon, he's out! That must have been tighter than I thought! Excellent work there by Belfort! Submission of the night perhaps?
