Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Ryan Phillips! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Mike Richard! The judges for this bout are Joseph Jones, Alyssa Summers and Jorge Garcia.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Phillips fails to land the takedown. Richard keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl. Phillips tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion. Richard throws a head kick that misses. Richard rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Phillips moves out of range and avoids them all easily. Phillips shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Richard but Richard pushes him off and we're back to square one. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Ryan Phillips. That's going to take a lot out of him. Phillips has a takedown stuffed. A head kick misses from Phillips. Phillips shoots in and drives through. Richard sprawls well. Richard misses with a kick to the body.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Phillips lands a front kick. A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Phillips. Richard throws a quick head kick that skims the top of Phillips's head. Phillips looks to land a combination but Richard avoids it well. Phillips fails with a takedown attempt. Phillips tries to close the distance and clinch but Richard swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
That's one minute gone in the round. Richard throws a sloppy head kick and Phillips counters with a single leg into guard. Richard didn't expect that. Phillips is breathing heavily. Phillips trying to control the position from guard on top but Richard is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Richard is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Phillips is controlling him. Richard can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Phillips controls the pace. Phillips wants to control from the top but Richard keeps moving. Richard is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Phillips doesn't manage to clinch there - Richard circles away.
Phillips bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Richard is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Phillips has just dragged him back down to the mat. Phillips working the head and body with strikes. Richard throws his opponent off and manages to get back to his feet! Nicely done! Phillips avoids the head kick by Richard.

Mike Richard seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. A kick lands to the mid section there for Richard. Richard throws a head kick that misses. Richard pulls out of a head kick attempt.

Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position. Richard preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage. Phillips gets to his feet. Richard looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!

He's pushed Phillips's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily. Nice sprawl there from Richard as Phillips shoots in. Phillips wants to clinch. Richard stuffs the takedown. Phillips tries to clinch but Richard is having none of it. Richard throws a head kick that misses and Phillips makes the exchange count by landing a cracking kick to the body. Richard really felt that one! Richard avoids the body shot from Phillips.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Phillips connects with a leg kick. He turned his hip over nicely there. Phillips takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness. Richard lands with a nice low kick. That'll leave a bruise. Richard throws a body kick that digs right into the meat. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
That was a close round but I would say that Ryan Phillips will probably get the nod. The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!

Phillips wants to lay and pray for a moment but Richard keeps working. Richard is trying to escape and get back to his feet. Phillips has hold of Richard's arm. He's looking for a kimura. Richard seems comfortable defending it but Phillips has shifted his position slighty and is cranking on the arm! Richard is real pain and he's forced to tap out! Richard is disgusted with himself for not defending it better but Phillips couldn't care less - he's delighted!
