PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Kilgore Trout (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Shawn Carter (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Trout comes to the cage accompanied by The Chase, Giorgio Moroder. Carter has chosen 99 Problems Remix as his entrance music. Shawn Carter told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Kilgore Trout!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Shawn Carter!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Franklin, Frank Dennis and Wesley Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Carter closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Trout to the mat! Trout manages to get full guard.
Carter postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Carter cracks Trout with a solid left hand.
Carter missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
Trout knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Carter on the ground.

Carter stands up from Trout's guard - Carter perhaps looking for a knockout.
Carter tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Trout paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Carter shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Trout connects with a high kick.
Trout tries to bum rush Carter with a series of wild strikes but Carter uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Decent striking displayed by Trout there.
Nice takedown defense from Trout. No joy for Carter on that attempt.
Trout looks to land a combination. Carter sees it coming but can only parry a couple of the shots.
Trout tries to close the distance and clinch up but Carter swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Trout lunges in with an uppercut that skims his opponent's chin.
Carter shoots in but no luck this time.
Kilgore Trout has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Shawn Carter.

Trout clinches.
Trout lands a hook that snaps the head of Carter backwards.
Carter looking for a takedown.
Carter has Trout pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Trout manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.
Trout lands an elbow inside.


Carter is rocked!


It looks like Shawn Carter has been cut.

Trout lands a damaging elbow.
Carter is still on wobbly legs! Can Trout finish him?
Carter looks gassed!

Trout breaks from the clinch.

Trout moves into the clinch successfully.
Carter takes an elbow to the temple.
Trout prevents a takedown attempt there.
Carter goes for a takedown attempt but Trout pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
Trout connects with a looping left hand that seems like it dazed Carter momentarily.
Kilgore Trout seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Carter feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Trout is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Trout throws some sloppy strikes off his back.
Trout wants to stand up but Carter is controlling him.
Carter seems to have recovered his senses.

Carter drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Trout dives on top into guard.
Trout wants to control from the top but Carter keeps moving.

Carter is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Carter is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Trout throws and elbow that misses. Carter uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Trout's guard. Nice move by Carter!
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Carter trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Trout looking to hit a scissor sweep but Carter is one step ahead there.
Carter trying to control but Trout is working from the bottom.
Trout throwing strikes off his back to little effect.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
A head kick misses from Carter.
Trout is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Carter tries for a takedown but Trout sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Trout lands with a kick to the temple. Carter shrugs as if to say "is that all you've got?"
Trout misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.

Trout forces Carter back against the cage and clinches.
Carter goes for a takedown in the clinch but Trout prevents it.
Trout makes some space for himself and lands an uppercut.

Trout breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Trout misses with a jab, cross combination.

Trout clinches up against the cage.
Carter looking to slow down the pace here.
Trout prevents the takedown attempt.
Trout comes over the top with an elbow. That landed flush.
Come on Trout - let's have some action - none of this stalling nonsense.

Trout breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Trout wants to clinch

and Carter decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Trout's guard.
Trout wants to improve his position but instead Carter has moved into half guard.
Carter prevents Trout from improving his position.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Trout is working hard here to advance position.
Carter stops Trout from getting back to his feet.
Trout tries to get to full guard but Carter has control of the leg.
Trout regains full guard. Nicely done.
Carter trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Trout throwing strikes off his back to little effect.
Trout throws a couple of weedy looking strikes off his back.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
A head kick misses from Trout.

and Trout counters with a nice kick to the body.
Carter walks into a straight right hand from Trout.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Carter shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Trout as he avoids it easily.

Trout clinches up against the cage.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Kilgore Trout will probably get the nod.
The cut man is working on Shawn Carter's cut.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Trout tries to clinch but Carter moves out of range.
Carter walks straight into a jab right on the nose. That one stung - he's blinking and trying to clear his head.
Trout throws a head kick that looked like it stung.
Nice sprawl there from Trout as Carter shoots in.
Trout tries to clinch up.
Like a baseball bat into the meat of his leg there - nice leg kick by Trout.
Trout tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.

Trout has managed to clinch.
Trout lands a glancing elbow in the clinch.
Trout with the Thai clinch, lands a knee to the head.
Trout lands an elbow that stopped Carter in his tracks for a moment.
Carter drops down looking for an ankle pick but Trout pulls his leg out and moves away.

Trout rushes Carter and presses him up against the cage.

Trout breaks the clinch.
Carter takes a head kick and shrugs it off.
Trout throws a series of punches but Carter moves out of range.
Trout slips under a jab.
Trout throws a series of punches but Carter avoids them all with ease.

Carter shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Carter was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Trout stops Carter from taking his back. Still, being mounted isn't any better.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Carter thuds his fist into the canvas! Oooouch!

Carter is controlling this nicely and is looking to make no mistakes. Trout is trying to wiggle out of this horrible position. Trout flips to his side and attempts to get a leg in for half guard. Carter anticipates the leg and manages to get behind Trout and secures both hooks! This could be bad! Carter slips an arm under Trout chin and tries to position for a rear naked choke. Carter has worked the choke in now and it looks tight. Carter is squeezing on Trout like an anaconda would it's prey. Trout fails to tap and has fallen unconscious! We've got ourselves a winner by way of a rear naked choke!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:29 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Shawn Carter!
