PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Japovisky Ribrisko (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Joey Mon (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Joey Mon struggled to make weight for this fight. He only made it down to 206.4lbs at the first attempt and had to take the additional two hours to make the official bout weight. Let's see how much it's taken out of him. Joey Mon acknowledges the crowd's support as he enters the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Japovisky Ribrisko!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Joey Mon!
The judges for this bout are Donatello Bradman, Winston Howard and Hugh Johnson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Good standup being displayed there by Mon as he connects with a hook.


It looks like Japovisky Ribrisko has been cut.
Ribrisko fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Ribrisko fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Mon tries for a takedown but Ribrisko circles away easily

and Ribrisko counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Mon's guard now.
Ribrisko is pushing down on Mon's leg trying to pass to half guard. Mon is fighting to maintain full guard but Ribrisko has managed to sneak the leg through.

Mon is trying to stand up here but Ribrisko is controlling him well.
Ribrisko throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
Ribrisko wants to pass the guard but Mon is defending well.
Mon really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Ribrisko. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Ribrisko is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Ribrisko has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Ribrisko is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.

Ribrisko decides to return to a standing position.

Ribrisko slips under a jab.
Mon fails to land with a series of punches.
Ribrisko shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Mon counters with a stiff right hand.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Japovisky Ribrisko. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Mon swings away with a body shot that misses

and Ribrisko counters with a shoot takedown. Mon fights it but they end up in guard.
Mon looks gassed!

Ribrisko gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.
Good shot there by Mon.
Ribrisko has his takedown stuffed
and Mon makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.
Ribrisko shoots and misses
and Mon counters with a nice uppercut.

Mon shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Ribrisko is trying to defend but Mon finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Ribrisko is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Mon pulls his head out easily.

Ribrisko actively working from the bottom here.
Mon perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Mon seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Ribrisko does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Ribrisko pushes Mon off and gets back to his feet.
Ribrisko has his head snapped back a nice jab. A little nod from Ribrisko there as he acknowledges the shot.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's time! Ribrisko's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Mon thows a body shot but no joy.
Mon looks to throw the jab but Ribrisko is out of range.

Ribrisko gets a takedown into half guard.

Ribrisko is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Mon is just riding it out for now. Ribrisko eventually gives up the hold.
Mon is breathing heavily.

Ribrisko passes the guard and advances to mount!
Ribrisko lands a big elbow.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Ribrisko postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Mon looks a forlorn figure.

Ribrisko breaks from Mon's wrist control and lands an elbow.
Mon taking shots to the head.
Ribrisko with a couple of short strikes.
Ribrisko lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

BOOM! Ribrisko connects with a massive shot to the dome!
Ribrisko postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Mon looks a forlorn figure.

Ribrisko is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Mon can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.
Mon is bucking up trying to escape but Ribrisko cracks him with another couple of good strikes.

Ribrisko can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Mon is looking to escape.
Ribrisko pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage.
Ribrisko scores with a couple of good head shots there.

Ribrisko is controlling this nicely and is looking to make no mistakes. Mon is trying to wiggle out of this horrible position. Mon flips to his side and attempts to get a leg in for half guard. Ribrisko anticipates the leg and manages to get behind Mon and secures both hooks! This could be bad! Ribrisko slips an arm under Mon chin and tries to position for a rear naked choke. Ribrisko has worked the choke in now and it looks tight. Ribrisko is squeezing on Mon like an anaconda would it's prey. Mon fails to tap and has fallen unconscious! We've got ourselves a winner by way of a rear naked choke!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:05 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Japovisky Ribrisko!
