PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jose Juan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Lyoto Machida (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Jose Juan!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Lyoto Machida!
The judges for this bout are Seu Braga, Daniel Cesar and Luis Engracia.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Juan tries to clinch there but Machida circles away.
Juan displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Machida.

Juan closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Machida quickly recovers to half guard.
Juan works his way into full mount!
Machida wants to try and get back to his feet.
Juan looking to ground and pound his opponent to a finish here.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Juan landing punches.
Juan looking to control and managing it successfully.
Juan lands a heavy elbow.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Juan is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, Machida has managed to escape the submission attempt.
Juan takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Juan has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Juan stands up from the dominant position, so we're back on the feet.
Machida misses with a takedown attempt

and Juan counters with a nice double leg into guard.
Machida trying to strike from the bottom but really, it's not the best position to be doing that from!
Juan controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Jose Juan wasn't doing enough on the ground.
Juan fails with the takedown

and Machida holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.
Machida is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Juan gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.
Jose Juan has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Lyoto Machida.

Juan's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Machida drops his hands momentarily and Juan takes advantage with a crisp shot to the head.
Machida throws a nice looking combination but Juan bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.

Juan looking for a takedown here - he's got it.
Juan looking to control the position here, rather than advance.
Machida looks gassed!
Machida is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Juan forces his way into half guard.
Juan could do with loosing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.

Juan stands up out of the half guard.
Juan tries to check the leg kick but that clearly hurt him.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Juan is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Juan tries to clinch there but Machida circles away.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jose Juan dominated that round.
That's time! Back to the action!



Juan clinches.
Machida tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Machida is pressed up against the cage. Juan has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Machida down to the mat. Machida avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
Juan tries to clinch there but Machida circles away.
Juan fails with the takedown.
Machida will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Juan clinches but Machida breaks the clinch

and Machida counters with a nice double leg into side control. Juan won't be happy with that.
Juan tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Machida wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Juan sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard.
Machida prevents Juan from improving his position.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Juan trying to hold on to Machida's head to control him but Machida postures up.
Machida not landing any meaningful shots this time.
Juan is trying to control but can't.
Juan makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Juan.
Machida must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Machida is breathing heavily.
Juan controls Machida momentarily but Machida frees himself.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Machida loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Machida wanted to stand there but Juan had control of the position.
Juan manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
Juan looking to finish Machida with some ground and pound. This is bad for Machida!

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Machida can't escape the position.
Juan trying to control but he's not successful this time.

Juan looks like he's working for a submission but he's not found anything just yet.
Machida is bucking up trying to escape but Juan cracks him with another couple of good strikes.
Juan raining down shots from the mount!
Machida throwing hammer fists to the chest of Juan. What's that going to do exactly?

Juan takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

Juan throws some shoulder strikes here and then postures up. Oh, he's gone for an armbar! Machida has his hands clasped together but Juan breaks the hold and Machida is forced to tap! This one is aaaaaaaaaaall over! That was lightning fast by Juan!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:36 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Jose Juan!
