Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Gago Dragan! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Luis Amauri! The judges for this bout are Wesley Smith, Daniel Franklin and Chris Downing.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Amauri shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Amauri showed some decent athleticism there. Dragan tries to kick Amauri off but Amauri keeps his base steady and stays in half guard. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Dragan trying to control from the bottom.
Amauri is controlling the pace.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup. Dragan tries to roll over but Amauri keeps him under control.
Luis Amauri has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet. The fight moves into the clinch position. Dragan is fighting off a takedown attempt but Amauri is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Dragan to the mat. Dragan regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat.
That's one minute gone in the round. Amauri gets to his feet - Dragan follows without any prompting. Amauri just misses with a punch to the body.
Dragan gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily and Amauri counters by clinching up. Amauri keeps control of Dragan as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks. Dragan tries to stall but Amauri uses the opportunity to gain a better position.
Dragan wants a takedown.
Amauri keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Dragan's efforts to push away. Amauri has Dragan pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Amauri pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Dragan tumbling to the mat - Amauri dives into Dragan's guard. Amauri wants to control from the top but Dragan keeps moving. Dragan knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Amauri on the ground. Amauri is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully. Dragan is looking to stand up but Amauri isn't so interested in that idea.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Luis Amauri. Amauri closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Dragan to the mat! Dragan manages to get full guard. Dragan is working an open guard so Amauri takes the opportunity to get back to his feet. Amauri closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Dragan did well to prevent Amauri getting side control. Dragan is breathing heavily. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Amauri passes the guard and advances to mount! Amauri get's back to his feet. Amauri throws a head kick that misses. Dragan fails with the takedown and Amauri counters with a shoot takedown into half guard. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Gago Dragan. That's going to take a lot out of him. Amauri not doing much here.
That's three minutes gone in the round. The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily. Amauri works his foot free and advances to mount. Amauri working for a submission here. He's tucked his head under his opponent's arm, looking for an arm triangle. He's hopped off into side control, looking to tighten the submission... is it going to work? He's given up a good position looking for it. Dragan looks OK. Oh, I spoke too soon, he's out! That must have been tighter than I thought! Excellent work there by Amauri! Submission of the night perhaps?
