Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Julio Marquez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Denis Melentev (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Denis Melentev looks lathargic as he enters the arena. Wake up son, you're about to have a fight!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Julio Marquez!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Denis Melentev!
The judges for this bout are Chris Edwards, James Ackerman and James Glass.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Marquez tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Melentev swivels and escapes.
Marquez throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Melentev stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.
Marquez tries to score a power double leg takedown but Melentev sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Marquez somewhat.
Melentev looks for a takedown but Marquez sprawls well.
Julio Marquez seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Marquez scores with a nice looking left hook and follows it up with an uppercut!
A head kick misses from Marquez.
Marquez shoots in for a takedown but Melentev shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.

Melentev tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in the close the distance. Marquez manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.

Melentev shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Marquez as he avoids it easily.

Melentev shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Marquez pinned against the cage. Marquez gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Melentev shoots in but no luck this time.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Melentev shoots in looking for a takedown but Marquez manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Melentev's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.

and Melentev counters with a single leg into guard. Marquez didn't expect that.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Marquez has a butterfly guard looking to sweep but Melentev has passed into side control.

Melentev looking to control but instead Marquez has slipped a leg in, to regain half guard.
Marquez preventing any damage for now, controlling his opponent's head.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Melentev throwing shots but Marquez is blocking nicely.
Melentev is looking to take a break and control but Marquez is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.
Marquez is staying active underneath Melentev, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.
Melentev takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Melentev tries for a takedown but Marquez sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Marquez moves out of range of the strikes.
Melentev misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Marquez shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Melentev but Melentev pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Marquez throws a body kick that misses.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Melentev is keen to just control but Marquez is a slippery customer.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Denis Melentev wasn't active enough on the ground.
Melentev works over Marquez's head and body with a nice combination.
Melentev throws a leg kick but he was too far away and it doesn't land.

and Melentev counters with a nice double leg into guard.
Marquez knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Melentev on the ground.
Melentev wants to stand but Marquez has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
Marquez is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Melentev is controlling him.
Marquez throws a couple of shots from the bottom but they don't land.

Marquez is looking to sweep but instead, Melentev has passed into half guard.
Melentev seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Marquez does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Melentev stands up and beckons Marquez to join him on the feet.
Marquez closes the distance looking to clinch

and Melentev counters with a shoot takedown. Marquez fights it but they end up in guard.

Melentev trying to stand up but can't free himself from Marquez's guard.
Marquez manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Melentev manages to get himself to full guard.
Marquez looking to sit in guard and control but Melentev gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Marquez is looking for a triangle here but Melentev uses the submission attempt to pass into side control.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Denis Melentev showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!

Marquez leaves Melentev with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Marquez shoots in looking for a takedown but Melentev manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Marquez's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.

Marquez fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Melentev, pushing him back against the cage.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Marquez drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Melentev gets the underhooks and prevents it.
Marquez wants to break the clinch but can't.

Melentev tightens his grip and picks Marquez up, before dumping him to the ground. Marquez manages to land in guard.

Melentev looking to pass the guard.
Melentev trying to control the position from guard on top but Marquez is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Marquez looking for a guillotine here but Melentev defends easily.
Marquez wants to get back to his feet but he's too absorbed in his own little project and Melentev manages to pass to side control.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Melentev uses his free foot to push down on Marquez's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Marquez.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Marquez has given up his back here.
Melentev tries to get the hooks in deep but Marquez pushed the leg off.
Melentev is hanging on to Marquez's back as he tries to escape.

Marquez avoids the strikes from Melentev.
The crowd hopeful of a finish here - Melentev's supporters are on their feet, screaming for him to go for the rear naked choke.

Melentev doesn't have the hooks in and Marquez manages to turn into his guard.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Melentev utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Denis Melentev was stalling too much, according to the referee.

Marquez closes the distance and clinches.

Melentev drags the fight down to the ground.
Marquez tries to stand but Melentev is controlling from the bottom.
Melentev not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Julio Marquez has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Denis Melentev is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
