PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Chen Khan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and John Lennon (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). John Lennon is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Chen Khan!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, John Lennon!
The judges for this bout are James Glass, James Ackerman and Sam Margolis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Khan fails to land the takedown.
Lennon looks for a takedown but Khan sprawls well.
Lennon tries a head kick but it misses.
Lennon tries to clinch but Khan moves out of range.
Lennon scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Khan doesn't seem bothered though.
Khan sets himself and throws a head kick that knocks Lennon to the ground! Khan dives into full mount looking to finish!


Lennon is rocked!


It looks like John Lennon has been cut.
Lennon wriggling around on the bottom manages to avoid the strikes thrown by Khan.

Khan stands up from the dominant position, so we're back on the feet.

Khan clinches.
Lennon stalling in the clinch but Khan improves position.
Khan tries a knee to the head but he's missed.
Lennon tries to pull guard but Khan holds him up against the cage and eventually Lennon drops back down to his feet.
Khan is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Lennon pulls him back up using the underhooks.

Lennon pulls Khan into guard.
Khan will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Lennon looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Lennon has a closed guard, preventing Khan from standing up.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Khan drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Lennon manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Khan has Lennon in his guard.
Khan is breathing heavily.
Lennon passes easily into side control. Nice work.
Khan is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Lennon's leg. He's managed it. Nice work.
Lennon seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.
Lennon working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.
Lennon is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.
Lennon stops Khan from getting back to his feet.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Lennon lands a nice short elbow.
Khan tries to push off, looking to stand up, but Lennon manages to move to mount!
Lennon has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Lennon jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Khan manages to avoid the submission attempt.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Lennon is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Khan knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
Lennon creates a bit of distance and throws down some hard shots.
Khan is trying to get back to his feet.
Khan throws an elbow to the body but it doesn't land.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Khan wants to control but Lennon postures up.
Khan tries to get back to half guard but can't.

Khan throws Lennon to one side and escapes!
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for leaving it all in the cage!

Khan feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Khan stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Lennon swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Khan lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Khan stands and steps away. Lennon gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.
Khan really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Khan doesn't succeed with the takedown

and Lennon counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Lennon.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Chen Khan. That's going to take a lot out of him.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Lennon stands up from Khan's guard - Lennon perhaps looking for a knockout.

Lennon clinches.
Lennon throws a vicious knee straight up the middle but Khan blocks it with crossed arms.

Lennon escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

Lennon cracks the inside of Khan's front leg.

Lennon closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Knees in the clinch landing for Lennon.
Khan tries to land knees in the clinch but Lennon avoids the damage to the body.
Lennon tries for a takedown. No joy.
Khan gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Lennon.
Lennon tries to score a body lock takedown but Khan shows good agility there to stay on his feet.

Khan escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Khan is looking to clinch but Lennon is avoiding it.
Khan has his takedown stuffed

and Lennon counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
Lennon uses his free foot to push down on Khan's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Khan.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
The referee warns Khan that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.
Khan can't escape the position.
Khan wants to hold on but Lennon pushes him away.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

John Lennon dominated that round.
The cut man is working on John Lennon's cut.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Khan has his takedown stuffed

and Lennon counters with a nice double leg into guard.
Khan knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Lennon on the ground.
Lennon scores with a decent looking elbow strike.
John Lennon has got the better of the ground game so far.
Lennon passes Khan's right leg, so he's now in half guard.

Lennon is trying to work for a kimura. He's got his hands clasped together - this could be trouble! No, Khan has managed to free his arm - good work.
Khan is refusing to be controlled, as Lennon sits in half guard.
Khan wants to improve his position but Lennon is controlling well.
Lennon looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Khan with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Lennon is controlling the pace.
Khan is not content to let Lennon control the position.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Lennon might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Khan kaven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.
Khan is looking for a sweep. Lennon is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Khan is staying active underneath Lennon, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Khan shoots and misses

and Lennon counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Khan!
Lennon is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Khan can't stay in a position like this for much longer.
Khan is squirming around, avoiding Lennon's attempts to control the action.

Lennon wants to control the pace but Khan is squirming around nicely.
Khan is desperately trying to improve his position but Lennon has a good base and remains in mount.

Khan is looking to get to half guard.
Khan bucks up and manages to get a nice reversal! He's in guard on the top - nicely done!

Khan looking to sit in guard and control but Lennon gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Khan has momentary wrist control but Lennon slips an elbow through the middle.

Lennon postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.
Khan wants to stand and escape but Lennon is having none of it.

Lennon drops back looking for a leg! Khan is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Khan manages to kick Lennon off! Lennon jumps back into Khan's guard.
Khan wants to control the position but Lennon says "no thanks buddy" and passes to half guard.
Khan is staying active underneath Lennon, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Khan is looking for a sweep. Lennon is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Khan is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Lennon's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Lennon's back!
Lennon tries to escape the position - he's now mounted. Is that better or worse? Hard to tell!
Lennon is working to get back to half guard.

Khan is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Lennon can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.
Lennon wants to use the cage to get back to his feet here.

Lennon moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.

Lennon is actively looking for submissions from his back. He's worked himself a little space on the bottom and seems to be going for a triangle. No, he's switched into an armbar! That was slick! Khan rolls with it to try and escape but Lennon cranks on the arm and Khan is forced to tap out! This one is aaaaaaaaall over!
