Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
6 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Andrew Jericho! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
5 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Lyoto Emelianenko! The judges for this bout are Ian Loll, Dillan Fox and Steve Smith.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! A big left from Emelianenko misses. Jericho drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard. Jericho stops Emelianenko from standing up. Jericho forces his way into half guard. Emelianenko is trying to stand.
Jericho is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Jericho gets to his feet - back to striking we go! Jericho closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard. Jericho wants to control but Emelianenko is keeping him busy. Jericho missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Jericho not landing any meaningful shots this time. Jericho has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. Jericho postures up and decides to stand up, from the half guard. The ref calls for Emelianenko to stand up. Emelianenko throws a right and a left that both miss. Jericho fails with an attempt to clinch.
Jericho gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard. Emelianenko seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up. Jericho pulls Emelianenko in close to prevent any damage.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Emelianenko drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Jericho dives on top into guard. Jericho prevents Emelianenko from getting back to his feet. Jericho decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow. Jericho decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard. Jericho trying to control from half guard but Emelianenko is working away. Emelianenko looks like he's trying to stand up.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Jericho seems to be working for a kimura but Emelianenko defends the submission attempt. Emelianenko is trying to stand back up but Jericho is controlling him
Emelianenko is using up a lot of energy trying to get back to his feet. Perhaps he should improve his position first. Jericho seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Emelianenko does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back. Jericho thows a huge punch but Emelianenko dodges it nicely.
Jericho seems to be looking for submissions.
Emelianenko is not content to let Jericho control the position. Jericho has hold of the far side arm. He's working for the Kimura, can Emelianenko defend it? Jericho steps over the head and cranks it - Emelianenko is tapping out! That was textbook stuff right there - nice submission victory for Jericho!
