The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Machida jabbing away but nothing is landing.
Machida looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.

PitBull looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
PitBull seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Machida does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
PitBull slows the pace down in half guard.
PitBull working the head and body with strikes.
PitBull wants to stand up but Machida is controlling the position.
PitBull is trying to control. Machida wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.

The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.

PitBull seems to be working for a kimura but Machida defends the submission attempt.

PitBull thows a big elbow that misses, also allowing Machida to regain full guard.

PitBull decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
Machida lands three nice shots there - that looked like it hurt!

Machida tried to score with a low kick but PitBull checks it.

PitBull closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - PitBull lands in his opponent's guard.
PitBull would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.

PitBull seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
Machida wants to stand and escape but PitBull is having none of it.

PitBull stands up from guard. Let's bang!
PitBull shoots in but Machida avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Wow, both these guys are really going for it!
PitBull will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Machida throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Machida feints and then cracks PitBull's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow PitBull down.
Machida swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.

Machida gets caught flat footed, as PitBull shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.

PitBull stands up from Machida's guard - PitBull perhaps looking for a knockout.
A combination from PitBull does no damage.

An inside leg kick lands from Machida.
Machida chopping away at his opponent's legs.
PitBull throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Machida's waist but Machida gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing PitBull off to one side.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for NS PitBull. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Machida connects with a body shot.

PitBull drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
PitBull wants to stand but Machida has his arm trapped.

PitBull stands up and we're back to a striking position.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Machida takes a kick to the body and keeps moving.
Lyoto Machida is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Machida stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Machida wants it to stay on the feet.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!

Machida lands with an overhand left.

PitBull gets a takedown into half guard.
The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.
PitBull tries to pass to full mount but Machida defends it.
Machida is trying to stand back up but PitBull is controlling him

Machida pushes PitBull off and gets back to his feet.
Machida stuffs the takedown attempt from PitBull. PitBull gets slowly back to his feet.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
PitBull tries to clinch up but Machida circles away and keeps his distance.
Machida tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.

PitBull closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.

PitBull is looking for a kimura here.

PitBull decides to return to a standing position.
PitBull shoots for a takedown but Machida saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
PitBull takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness.
PitBull slips a jab and a cross from Machida.
PitBull is trying hard to land a takedown here. Machida sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.

Machida scores with a decent looking hook.
PitBull scores with a crisp jab that stopped Machida in his tracks.

PitBull closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Machida quickly recovers to half guard.

Machida really doesn't want to stay on the ground with PitBull. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

PitBull trying to control the position from guard on top but Machida is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.

We're going to have a standup here because NS PitBull wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.
Sloppy strikes from Machida. Those never looked like landing.
Machida misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.

Machida gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
PitBull looking to sit in guard and control but Machida gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Machida wants to pass the guard but PitBull is keeping the position.

Machida is sitting in close to PitBull's body. PitBull has gone for a guillotine from the bottom. Oh damn, that looks pretty tight! Machida is panicking - it looks like this one could be all over! Yes, Machida is tapping! That was a very nice submission by PitBull.
