PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Valky Black (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and John Locke II (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Valky Black!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, John Locke II!
The judges for this bout are Anni Minnemäki, Tarja Halkonen and Johanna Lukiainen.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Locke II keeps the fight on the outside.

Locke II moves into the clinch.
A hook to the body from Black.

Locke II lands a takedown into guard.
Locke II trying to control but Black is working from the bottom.

Locke II got a little sloppy there for a moment and Black has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Locke II has managed to get both his arms back between Black's legs - danger averted.
Locke II throws a strike but Black rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Black accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Black is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Locke II is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Locke II has escaped and now he's on top!
Locke II postures up in Black's guard and throws a big left but Black blocks it.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Locke II cracks Black with a solid left hand.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Locke II pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Black is keeping the position for now.
Both fighters really going for it on the ground here!
Black trying to keep a closed guard but Locke II is proving a slippery customer.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Black will have to put a bit more behind his punches if he's going to do any damage from this position.
Black has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Locke II wants to control from the top but Black keeps moving.
Black scores with a couple of body punches from the bottom.
Locke II trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Locke II passes Black's left leg - he's now in half guard.
Locke II lands with a punch from half guard.

Locke II stands, ready to strike. The ref makes him back up and allows Black to get to his feet.
Locke II throws a right and a left that both miss.

Locke II tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in the close the distance. Black manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Locke II fails miserably with a takedown attempt.

Locke II lands a big head kick that sends Black tumbling to the mat! Locke II takes a step backwards and waves Black back to his feet - he wants the finish!


It looks like Valky Black has been cut.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Locke II tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Black paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Black stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Black wants it to stay on the feet.
Locke II fails to land with a series of punches.
Locke II looks gassed!
Locke II on the wrong end of an overhand right that came out of nowhere.
Locke II fails with a takedown attempt.
Valky Black has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of John Locke II.
Locke II swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Black misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Locke II slaps away a takedown attempt from Black, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Black shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Locke II as he avoids it easily.

Black scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Black decides to take the fight back to the feet.

Locke II closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Locke II lands in his opponent's guard.

Locke II must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Locke II makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.
Locke II chips away with some ground and pound.
Locke II is pushing down on Black's leg trying to pass to half guard. Black is fighting to maintain full guard but Locke II has managed to sneak the leg through.
Black is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Locke II scores with a couple of nice shots.
Black won't allow Locke II to pass to mount.

Locke II lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.

Locke II is looking to advance position but Black won't allow it.
Locke II moves into full mount! Black won't be happy about that!
Locke II is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Black can't stay in a position like this for much longer.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

John Locke II dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Valky Black's cut.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


Locke II misses with a series of wild punches.
Locke II is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Black.

Locke II gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.

Locke II escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Black closes the distance but Locke II moves to the side

and Locke II counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
Black is not content to let Locke II control the position.
Locke II thows a huge punch but Black dodges it nicely.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Locke II looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Black with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

Locke II is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Black defends it well.
Locke II is pressing down on Black's thigh, looking to free his foot. Black is holding on for now.
Black pushes Locke II off looking to stand but Locke II dives back in and keeps control.
Locke II passes into side control, despite Black's attempt to control the position.
Black is working to avoid the ground and pound but Locke II connects with a decent elbow.

Locke II grinds an elbow into Black's temple.
Locke II lands a decent elbow from side control.

Locke II decides to stand back up. Locke II steps back and let's Black get back to his feet.
Black tries to clinch but fails miserably
and Locke II counters with a flying knee that drops Black! Locke II dives in and finishes the fight with a flurry of strikes from the mount!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:19 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). John Locke II!
