Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Akira Morris! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
4 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Justin Gracie! The judges for this bout are Yukihiro Shimada, Yuuki Gou and Kenichi Hosakawa.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Gracie drops his hands momentarily and Morris takes advantage with a crisp shot to the head. Morris punishes Gracie's body with a nice straight punch. Morris fakes a jab and then connects with a hook. Gracie looking for a takedown here - he's got it. Morris on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Morris tries to get out of the position. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Gracie pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Morris is keeping the position for now. Gracie drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Gracie jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position. Gracie stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Morris swivels though and keeps the full guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Gracie forces his way into half guard. Gracie trying to pass the guard but Morris defending well. Gracie prevents Morris from standing back up.
Gracie is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Gracie is looking to pass the guard... He's managed it - he's now in full mount! Morris knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Gracie on the ground.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Gracie working for a submission but Morris is keeping him at bay. Gracie is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Morris to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Morris shrugs it off. Gracie forces the positional change into back control.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Gracie looking for the RNC.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult. Gracie is working really hard to secure the rear naked choke. Morris defends successfully for a significant amount of time. Both fighters are looking very determined. Gracie is working hard for the rear naked choke here.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Morris is staying cool under pressure, defending well against the rear naked choke attempt from his opponent.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Gracie working for a choke but Morris is defending well. Gracie is remaining active here, looking for the choke. The more discerning members of the crowd will appreciate his efforts.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Justin Gracie dominated that round. The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.
Horrible takedown by Gracie or perhaps it was just good defense by Morris which made him look bad. Morris connects with a hook to the side of his opponent's head. Gracie darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard. Gracie is working for an americana but Morris has been sneaky and has managed to get back to half guard, whilst Gracie was thinking about the submission. Gracie prevents Morris from getting back to his feet. Gracie slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
That's one minute gone in the round. Gracie is working for what looks like an arm triangle here. Morris is trying to escape and Gracie transitions quickly into an armbar! He's slapped it on tight and Morris is forced to tap! Nice work there by Gracie! Very nice indeed!
