The bell rings for round one and we are underway! King gets caught flat footed, as Fernandez shoots in with a quick takedown into guard. Fernandez distracts King with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm. A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as King holds on and takes a little breather. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. King looking to control.

King keeping control of the position. Fernandez tries to stand and escape but King is controlling the position. Fernandez is trying to control. The ref stands the fighters back up. TJ Fernandez was stalling too much, according to the referee. King gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily and Fernandez moves into the clinch. Fernandez's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does. Fernandez tries for a takedown but King circles away easily and King counters with a nice double leg into guard. Fernandez can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as King controls the pace. King lands a couple of elbows. King controls the pace of the fight for a moment. King trying to control the position from guard on top but Fernandez is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Fernandez tries to land a sweep but no joy.

Joe King has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet. Nice body kick there by Fernandez. Fernandez misses with a wild combination.

King misses with a takedown and Fernandez counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body. King is breathing heavily. Fernandez tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in the close the distance. King manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat. Fernandez closes the distance looking to clinch and King decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Fernandez's guard.

We're going to have a standup here because Joe King wasn't active enough for the referee's liking. Fernandez shoots and misses and King counters with a takedown into side control.

King is looking to take a break and control but Fernandez is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Fernandez is letting King control him for a moment.
