Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Nikolaus Koskinen! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
9 - 7 - 0, fighting out of New York, Frankie Murdock! The judges for this bout are Lou da Vinci, Reed Andrews and John Roberts.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Murdock lands with a nice body kick. Koskinen misses with the combination.
Koskinen looks to throw the jab but Murdock is out of range. Murdock swings for the body but Koskinen moves out of range.
Koskinen misses with a two punch combination.
Koskinen fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Koskinen is breathing heavily. Koskinen avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Koskinen looks to score with a combo but nothing lands. A swing and a miss from Koskinen. Murdock feints and then winds up with a huge right hand that connects perfectly and sends Koskinen sprawling to the canvas! Koskinen rolls over backwards and springs off the cage and manages to regain his footing - how acrobatic! Oh, he's still wobbly - can Murdock finish him?!
It looks like Nikolaus Koskinen has been cut. This has been an exciting period of action! Murdock pushes Koskinen away with a front kick. Murdock misses the shot to the body. Murdock looks to score with a combo but nothing lands. Murdock gets in close and instigates a clinch. Murdock lands a takedown into guard.
Murdock postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
That's one minute gone in the round. Murdock sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Koskinen's guard. Murdock takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position. Koskinen has hold of Murdock's hands but Murdock slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Koskinen is looking to escape. Murdock is nestled in close to Koskinen, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure. Murdock lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears. Murdock working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that. Murdock working over Koskinen with some ground and pound. Koskinen looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable.
Koskinen is rocked! The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Murdock is sitting in half guard. He's postured up and lands a nice elbow. Oh, Koskinen is hurt! He's hurt bad - Murdock fires away with more strikes and the referee jumps in to save Koskinen from any more punishment! Congratulations to Murdock! Great finish!
